If you were lucky to be on our last bourbon trail trip then you experienced a tasting straight out of the barrel. It was a great time and we’re already planning our next one. Who wants in?

Show of hands - who has been lucky enough to experience a barrel pick? 🖐️ Fun fact - we just got some legislation passed (HB500) that allows our distilleries to continue this beloved practice! That means that Master Distillers and blenders, bars, restaurants, retailers, Bourbon clubs, charities, general consumers, etc. still have the privilege to select their own expressions of America's Native Spirit - and these are authentic Kentucky experiences that you can only get here. We will cheers to that!

Planning a private trip to Louisville, Kentucky next weekend with a dear friend couple to celebrate his birthday. This week, leading up to a trip to New Orleans with my Mister on Friday, I will feature a N'awlins linked spirit and recipe. Follow us along as we drink, eat, and laugh our way through The French Quarter.

Day 1: The Sazerac
Who knew it was America's 1st Cocktail?

Recipe:
1 cube sugar
1½ oz. Sazerac Rye Whiskey or Buffalo Trace Bourbon
¼ oz. Herbsaint
3 dashes Peychaud's Bitters
lemon p*el
Pack an old-fashioned glass with ice. In a second old-fashioned glass place the sugar cube and add the Peychaud's Bitters to it, then crush the sugar cube. Add the Sazerac Rye Whiskey or Buffalo Trace Bourbon to the second glass containing the Peychaud's Bitters and sugar. Remove the ice from the first glass and coat the glass with the Herbsaint, then discard the remaining Herbsaint. Empty the whiskey/bitters/sugar mixture from the second glass into the first glass and garnish with lemon p*el.

A Creole apothecary created the Sazerac in his shop on Royal Street. It has changed over time but is still a part of history.

Happy National Bourbon Heritage Month!

What is National Bourbon Heritage Month?

National Bourbon Heritage Month is an observance in the United States that calls for celebration of bourbon as America's "Native Spirit". On August 2, 2007, the US Senate declared September as "National Bourbon Heritage Month." The bill, sponsored by Republican Senator Jim Bunning of Kentucky, passed by unanimous consent. The resolution calls for consumers who enjoy bourbon to do so responsibly and in moderation. The bill reinforces the 1964 Act of Congress that declared bourbon "America's Native Spirit" by celebrating the family heritage, tradition, and deep-rooted legacy that the bourbon industry contributes to the United States.
