Happy birthday to the empress of soul, Gladys Knight. Born and raised in Atlanta, she discovered her passion for music singing in church choirs as a child. Despite her global fame with hits like “Midnight Train to Georgia,” Gladys’s heart never left Atlanta. She opened her iconic Chicken & Waffles restaurant in the city, blending music, food, and Southern hospitality. “Atlanta isn’t just where I’m from—it’s who I am,” she often says, reflecting her deep connection to the community. Whether on stage or in the city streets, Gladys’s love for Atlanta shines through.
