Experiencing Quinta do Tedo wine in situ.

Seeing the vineyards, the foot treading tanks, the 18th century cellars, tasting wines directly from the barrel and from a vintage bottle opened using flaming hot port tongs and ice to make a clean break all bring you that much closer to the heart and soul of the Douro Valley.

Six Senses Douro Valley shines even on a rainy day.
The warm cozy nooks, views to the vineyard landscapes, a meal prepared in the open kitchen, cuddles with the house dogs, good friends and spa and wellness offerings of course, make this the best place to be on a day like this.

The Savoy Palace and Reserve are the perfect base for exploring the city of Funchal and other parts of the island of Madeira.

This is such a fun place to be. Stunning ocean views, lush landscapes, cobblestone streets, adventure and fun activities.

The motorcycle sidecar and toboggan ride were so exciting. In the 1800s, locals used these toboggans as a form of transportation to go from Monte hill down to the city center. Yes, it is touristy but so much fun, even going slow on a rainy morning. Thanks.

Madeira…WOW! A hidden island escape!

This Portuguese island is a new European destination for travelers from the US.

Thank you Marci and Enrique with for another exciting day in Portugal.

Today we headed out to the Arrábida Peninsula. Just 45 minutes away from Lisbon is the countryside full of cork trees and lazy villages. Here we enjoyed a private lunch at a Portuguese wine estate.

Next was a special visit to the studios of Azulejos de Azeitão. We witnessed the traditional process of crafting and hand-painting azulejos—Portugal’s iconic ceramic tiles that are so deeply woven into the country’s cultural and architectural identity.

We continued with scenic drive along Arrábida Mountain and through the National Park to Setúbal.
In this bustling port town, we enjoyed a stroll through the Mercado do
Livramento with its colorful stalls and had a tasting of local cheese and other local specialties.

If you’re ready for your next vacation, let’s talk about Portugal. There are endless ways to spend your time exploring or just relax and unwind.

Pastéis de Belém 1837 is the home of the famous Portuguese egg custard tart pastry. This is a must when visiting Lisbon. Pull up a chair next to the locals. They still come out to this neighborhood on the outskirts of Lisbon as they have been doing for more than 100 years when the monks of the Jerónimos Monastery created this recipe and later began to sell them to the public.
While in Belem, you can visit this monastery with its ancient cloisters and the tomb of Vasco da Gama. If you’re curious to learn more about world exploration, walk over to the Monument of the Discoveries, an homage to the maritime heritage of the nation.

Lisbon is easy to fall in love with. It’s a cosmopolitan city, but feels lived-in and unpretentious. The locals are welcoming and laid-back. You can wander cobbled streets that date back centuries, but you’ll see locals hanging laundry, chatting at cafés, or riding the vintage yellow trams.
Over the next 10 days I will be visiting many of the country’s top spots and some off the beaten path places like the island of Madeira. Stay tuned for more of this beautiful country.
Thinking about Portugal for your next trip? It offers a great value for you dollars and is ideal for first-timers and seasoned travelers alike. I’d love to help you design your perfect Lisbon escape and beyond! 🇵🇹

The hospitality and home-like feeling emanating from the Relais Monastero Santa Teresa in Nardò is what makes it truly special.

Six years ago, Antonello Rizzello, his wife Celine and their growing family moved from Paris to Antonello’s hometown of Nardò, to restore their family-owned historic palaces and share them with the world. The result was , where the passion put into honoring the original structure and beauty of these buildings shines through.

The Rizzellos are delightfully integral to the entire experience – whether its Antonello guiding guests on a tour of the town and its history, Celine teaching the method behind her artisanal soap and candle making, or Antonello’s mother leading a cooking class full of laughs and local cuisine.
