The Guillory family came out today after being rained out a couple weeks ago, and they had a blast. Wide variety of fish caught, which for people new to fishing is awesome. Keith scored a 20 incher to take home, and we also saw the biggest bay sea bass I’ve seen in a while. Many of you ask me how often people drop a rod overboard and you know I said I’ve never lost one…. Well I can’t say that anymore. It was bound to happen at some point, and while it was awkward on the boat for 5-10 minutes while trying to snag it, we left it and started teasing and cracking jokes and got back to having fun. Things happen; you make the best of it and move on.

Next week is the in-water boat show so those of you coming fishing will have to either valet or garage park, starting Tuesday. There are also pay parking spots on the street. Seats available for morning trips all week long. Afternoons and Saturday also available for private charter or open boat.

Rich the barber made it out for one last fishing trip for the year, along with his caretaker Dave and his friend Jeff. Dave’s come out with Rich several times now and today was the most fish he’s caught yet. Unfortunately he wasn’t able to bring one home this year, topping out at 17 inches. Rich caught the biggest fish of the trip at 17 3/4. He fishes with a weakfish rod, so it’s always hard for me to visually tell when he’s getting bites cause of all the action. Well there was no question when I looked over and saw his rod bent in half with the tip in the water. Now Jeff the trout fisherman - this was his first foray in the salt. He talked about wanting to catch a weakfish and basically willed it into existence, boating the second one of the season. In addition to the flounder and weakie we saw blues, sea robins, and of course sea bass too - good showing for a first time.

Once again, the wheelchair I keep in the trunk made the trip happen, cause without it Rich couldn’t make it down the dock. It’s always there for anyone who may need it, and can be put on the boat replacing a seat if need be.

1 last minute seat for tog in the morning, 2 seats for flounder Friday morning.
Next week, trips mornings all week - flounder Tuesday, tog Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Saturday still available for open boat or private charter and afternoons available.

The last day of August! It’s bitter sweet.

Andrew normally comes out with the Calloway’s crew but today he brought the family out for an end of summer trip. Well the boys might have teased him in the past but they sure won’t be teasing him in the future. Competition for the August Pool really heated up these past few days culminating with Andrew swooping in and claiming the prize with his 3.13 lb flattie. He nearly won himself a SPECIAL EDITION hat for a limit, too.

While there is no pool for September, the grand prize for the year won’t be awarded until the official close of the flounder season since there will still be the possibility of pulling up flounder even while togging. Last year my friend pulled up a 25 incher on a green crab the day after flounder season closed.

Thursday AM TOG 1 seat, Friday AM Flounder 2 seats.
Wednesday AM available for private charter or open boat.

Next week - 8th AM flounder 4 seats, 9th AM tog 4 seats, 10th AM tog 5 seats. 11th and 12th AMs and PMs are available for private charter or open boat, as are afternoons all week.

It’s hard to believe that August, and summer, is already coming to a close! Seems like just yesterday it was the 4th of July. Started out a bit chilly this morning but settled into a beautiful day. Aaaaand, quite a fun day with the Ambrose family. Josh’s fish came up just shy of taking the August Pool lead at 2.80 lbs. If only it had a full belly.

Sue’s fish in the afternoon, however, raised the bar from 2.94 to 2.97bs! With only 2 trips left for August, I have a feeling she’s gonna be texting me Monday afternoon to find out if she won. Her partner in crime Dee is still in the lead for the grand prize, to be shared with Ashley.

The Gallo family had a great day in the bay as the kids really got to see what fishing was all about. They saw sharks, sting rays, sea robins, sea bass and of course plenty of flounder. They had a ton of fun and learned a lot about the different fish and Pops took one home for dinner.

BEAUTIFUL day out on the water! Jason brought his family out and nailed a keeper, but Jenny had to model the fish for him because he was busy pushing Rich back to the parking lot in the wheel chair.

The afternoon was a pre return to school boys trip which was totally dominated by Andrew, who caught more fish than the other two combined and took one home for dinner. I must say, I was MOST impressed - didn’t see a cell phone the entire trip. Great young men, welcome back any time!

Well, I thought that the weather report would have made for a nice, quiet Saturday on the water and it was… until about 4:00. That’s about when we had the most dangerous, reckless and unnecessary incident that I can recall in my 20+ years working the bay….from someone you would LEAST expect. I SOOOOOOOO wish that I could have gotten a video. I would SOOOOOOO love to see the footage from their perspective.

The “X” is ABSOLUTELY NOT the “center of the channel.” It is in fact the very edge of the navigable waterway. The sandbar is clearly visible. The channel is some 300 feet wide, extending ALL THE WAY TO THE BANK. It’s 10-15 ft deep up against the bank. Please do us all a favor and spend some time actually learning about the water.

People keep asking me how come these boats keep killing people by crashing into channel markers. Well, I just told you - these people race around the bay and have absolutely no idea where they can and can’t go so they just try to get as close to the channel markers as possible. Spend 5 minutes every time you go out learning something new about the water.

Most of you know that I’m not a drinker, but I sure am tonight…

Another good day of fishing, as long as you can get away from the crabs and sea bass. Both keepers came up just shy of leading for the August pool. Also, another SPECIAL EDITION hat given out for the First Fish Contest. By far the smallest blowfish I’ve ever seen, but a blowfish nonetheless.
