The heat is on! Temps are rising and we had plenty of action, including several fish that will be ready for harvest some time in August. We had another First Fish Contest winner - took all this time to pull up the first weakfish.

A cancellation has left 2 seats open for Saturday afternoon.

Yesterday morning was a great bite, with steady action throughout the trip. And we saw some bald eagles - NJ representing well for some visitors from Wisconsin! I thought we had another HATrick club member a couple times, but came up a little short. Thanks for a great time!!!

Well what a difference a day makes! Yesterday afternoon was absolutely brutal - I think we only caught 4 fish. This afternoon we had 4 keepers! As they say, that’s why it’s called fishing and not catching - you just never know what kind of day it’ll be until you’re out there doing it.

Randy snagged the last se beer at for the morning trip a couple days ago and it sure paid off! Sadly though, he kept coming up short of winning the much coveted SPECIAL EDITION hat. Some really nice fish to take home though as a consolation prize though 😁. Warren stole the show in the afternoon, but his fish didn’t quite measure up for the monthly/yearly pool. On a side note, it always makes my day to reconnect with FishFinder 2 people, especially 4 years in. Great to see some more familiar faces!

Ken brought the family out this morning and the bite started off strong. After putting two fish in the box early, like many before him he was excited at the prospects of earning the much coveted SPECIAL EDITION hat! Sadly that did not happen, but in the afternoon Frank scored one for the first oyster cracker! Ken and company had such a great time they were talking about doing another trip before they even got off the boat. Naturally, I told them about the joys of TOG fishing, and they seemed eager to give it a go. George, who has collected all 3 colors of hats, nailed an afternoon keeper.

Another beautiful day on the water, complete with great company! Tank nailed our keeper, and narrowed the gap in his season long contest with Bob. Very high stakes! It’s been a while since a SPECIAL EDITION hat went out for the First Fish Contest, but now we can scratch Eagle Ray off the list. Yesterday we had one on at the end of the trip, and while it jumped a couple of times it ultimately settled in 40 feet of water which made peeling it of the bottom impossible. Joseph already has a couple of hats, so it was nice that someone else got one today. Tim brought smoked bluefish dip which was INCREDIBLE!

Speaking of stingrays, I took a picture f the side scan showing a group of cownose rays swimming by. The yellow marks in the black are the actual fish, just below the surface. The black marks on the yellow are their shadows, identifying what they are.

Also, the piece of the bridge that broke off and has been moving around in the bay seems to have finally found its forever home!.

This afternoon was scheduled time off for another oil change as well as dock and boat maintenance. And I was able to get home in time to take Jenny Lynn out to dinner!

Looks like a WONDERFUL weather week ahead! Fishing was pretty steady throughout the day. While everyone caught fish, I couldn’t help but talk about TOG since it’s right around the corner. I said if you think this was fun, you need to get out here in September/October to experience my favorite fish!

The first two special tog trips of August sold out immediately. Third one (25th) has just 2 seats left. There may be a fourth before i make the switch from flounder.

The fishing continues to be strong as we move towards the end of July!! The mornings trip was a wet one, but since I provide complete rain suits for all onboard, everyone remained dry throughout. The Smith boys were back, and young JT carried the day for them. I’ve heard A LOT of trash talking over the years, but none like JT! So modest, yet on the nose. “That fish isn’t very big.” he would say. Or, “this is my 13th fish.” I found it quite entertaining! Lisa nailed her second keeper for the year - first one was the leader for the monthly pool for a time.

The rain continued on and off in the afternoon, and the action was hot and heavy right from the first drop where they had 3 fish on within seconds. Not knowing anything about flounder fishing, they were all very receptive to instruction and were owning the fish in no time. Each one of them caught a keeper, which was great. The trip definitely ignited a passion for fishing and I’m sure I’ll be seeing Aly and the boys again for TOG this fall! They thought flounder was fun…wait till TOG!!

The bite goes on!! Not as crazy as the first two weeks of July, but we had some quality fish hit the deck today - two fish at 4 lbs and one over 4.5!! I really thought the new monthly and yearly pool was in the cooler.

The Rodriguez family wasn’t quite as lucky - we thought we were in for a good day when the first fish they caught went right into the box. They fished hard, manning extra rods and all but just couldn’t find another big enough.

I know the boys are coming back out for TOG, and being locals I suspect the Rodriguez family will be as well. I know September is more than a month away, but August is filling up fast and people are already booking Tog trips for September and October. 2 special tog open boats have already been scheduled for August and filled before I could even put them out there.

Now more immediately, here’s what’s left for the next 3 weeks.

23rd PM 4 seats, 24th AM 1 seat, 25th AM 1 seat

28th PM 1 seat, 30th PM 4 seats, 2ND PM 1 seat.

It wasn’t long ago that both of Chuck’s parents were out and took home 6 fish, both earning the much coveted SPECIAL EDITION hats! He only got 1, but I see a hat in his future.

In the afternoon I had a Jenny Lynn out on the Jenny Lynn, and she even shares a birthday with MY Jenny Lynn! How crazy! The ladies dominated the afternoon, though Arnold got in on the action and brought home a fish. If I recall correctly the ladies were out of the water when it happened 😆
