Update 4: My dad/Barnie Travel co-founder was born on the not so little island of Idjwi located in Lake Kivu. We spent a day and night eating, drinking and exploring the island, ending our journey with a visit to the one and only King of Idjwi. For many of us this was our first royal encounter! We discussed Idjwi's development goals and obstacles and envisioned the future (resorts, kayaking, Baharanyi family compound) for this beautiful diamond in the rough.

Barnie Travel News- DRC East Tour: Personal Take (from Bernice)
This is my third visit to DRC, but I have never experienced it through the eyes of a tourist! Take note though, this is not your typical tour experience. This tour is providing a wonderful blend of site seeing and opportinities to intermingle with locals and experience the culture from inside out! So in addition to seeing the majestic silver back gorillas and family in their natural habitat as well as Nyiragongo hiking, Barnie Travelers Jennae, Olivia, Zawadi and Sarah had front row seats at a traditional African wedding where we danced to rhythmic Congolese music!! Ending the following day with traditional "opening of kitchen" by the bride with plenty of tasty Congolese cuisines. Of course a journey to a French and Swahili speaking country would not be complete without practicing one's "bonjour", "jambo", etc.!!
