After 6 weeks of work, we ended up with one of the BEST old cabin restorations we have ever done. I am very proud of the crew who did this work. Dane, David and Brandon all did a great job on the cabin and the owners were amazed at the results. We really tried hard to keep the old looking aesthetic of the cabin and kept it looking rustic and all the logs unique. I think we pulled it off and I am most proud of this project! Well done crew!

Here we are at the beginning of the project. We started with the log replacement and then we did walnut media blasting. The owner John demo'd the pine siding and we exposed the flat logs on the inside. They looked REALLY ROUGH!! John asked me if I thought we could make them look good, and I was sure we could do better than what we saw after demo! My lead log smith Dane took care of the log work with some big old 22" logs. Had to support the cabin and level it without breaking the windows. That was a trick! After blasting the interior, and demo of mortar c***k, I could see it was going to be a special restoration!

We just wrapped up an awesome 1880's Ferryman's cabin in Mattawa WA. This cabin required full exterior and interior restoration, rot repair, mortar c***king removal and new c***king. I convinced the owners to demo the pine siding their Grandfather had installed over the flat logs on the interior and it was a good gamble! Instead of the entire interior being glossy pine, they can now enjoy looking at the nearly 150-year-old hand hewn logs we exposed and restored! Great job by all my workers to save this great piece of history! The first pics are all "before" pics. Then I will download "during" pics and then the final results in the final post. Enjoy! Thanks to John and Mindy for their business and trusting us to restore this family gem.

We tried something new in Julian California. The owners cedar siding was getting hammered by wood peckers...literally. So we demo'd all the siding, added new Tyvek and installed and painted the fiber cement hardie siding to keep those pesky peckers at bay!

We did the deck post replacement job as well at the same Paradise lodge....the requirement for the job was Alaskan yellow cedar. We don't have any of that cut in Washington anymore, so I had to drive way up to northern B.C. to get it! Nice trip....but man those are some expensive logs. Finished job pics will be posted soon! I have to find the pics :)

We finished up a big project at Paradise lodge Mount Rainier in Oct 24. We removed and replaced 10 large rotten logs that are used as additional snow load support for the Lodge restaurant. The lodge up at Paradise has the highest snowfall ever recorded for one season....I believe it was 1122" of snow in one year! That is a heavy snow load on any structure, so these rotten log posts are very important to keep the restaurant part of the lodge from collapsing. The job took 2 seasons to complete due to complexity and logistics, and we had many challenges to overcome with the park service! We did not paint the logs since that causes rot. However, my bet is that the park service will paint them again unfortunately.
