when I still ran this business, I got semi-regular calls asking what to do about carpenter ants in their trees. I always told them not to worry because the ants were a symptom, not a problem, and the problem they indicated (decay) was improved by their activity (removing decaying wood). now I have another reason ants help trees.

It's almost time to plant trees in Austin. If you plan to add a tree to your landscape, don't be afraid to dig into the planting medium (actually, fingers and a stream of water work best for this) to correct any root problems, such as those that circle the container or have abrupt kinks. Or just call 512-924-1245 to have your tree selected, purchased, delivered and installed by a Certified Arborist.

November means school is in full swing, Thanksgiving is coming, and everyone is busy with something. Schedule your new tree planting before Fall slips away. In Austin, transplants need the mild weather to establish roots before the heat comes in Spring / Summer.

Obtain plants from a source which has plant material grown from your immediate area. Attempt to locate trees that have evolved locally and are being grown in native soils (versus artificial soil). Be aware of buying trees from retailers that do not grow their own stock....
