What are we doing out here?
We found in some online filings that Colombia is in the process of getting world heritage status for the remnants of the ancient Inca Trail, a fast to network of roads that stretches almost the entire length of the South American continent. This vast empire reached all the way into Columbia, where it was connected through this trail. Close to the border with Ecuador, if you search hard enough, and kindly ask to transverse farm trails, you can find the last few rocks and dirt that once made up the spine of one of the greatest empires the earth has ever seen.
Today, Colombia is investing billions to make this area more accessible to cars and trucks with a vast infrastructure project. At the same time, hundreds of Venezuelans traverse along nearly the same trail every day — trying to make it south to a better life. @ Narino, Colombia
