This Annual Feed the Zombies Yard Haunt and Canned Food Drive is a non-profit event that is put on locally by me and held in my yard. There are TWO very significant reasons that i chose to do this event-the first is that I would very much like to see Halloween looked upon as a celebration, as it was meant to be. Not many people are aware of the fact that Halloween is the ONLY COMMUNITY BASED HOLID
AY that we have any more. Every other holiday is either family oriented or patriotic in nature. Halloween, however, is the ONLY holiday that's success lies SOLELY on COMMUNITY participation. It is meant to encourage getting to know-and trust-your neighbors by coming together as a community. YES-I know that the TRUE tradition of Halloween outlines a bit more, but regardless of the details, the community factor is always relevant. I feel so sad for the next generation when i take my kids out on Halloween to see that only every 3rd-4th house if lucky, is participating. We have to come together as a community for the KIDS SAKE, at least! The 2nd reason ties into the community outreach that i described in the first reason, but a little more prevalent. The olidays are right around the corner and before we know it, Thanksgiving & Christmas will be here, and that is an especially hard time of year for those less fortunate. By making this event into a food drive, not only will it bring community awareness, but also I am able to give back by collecting food to feed the hungry men, women, and children locally. ALL of this years' food donations will go directly to the BAKERSFIELD HOMELESS CENTER/BETHANY HOUSE to make sure that they will be distributed among those who truly need it the most. Thank you for your support and I hope to see you ALL at the 2nd Annual Feed the Zombies Yard Haunt & Canned Food Drive this year!!!
