We got sun, rain, fog and freaking expensive lobster rolls all while we were at Acadia National Park. It was wonderful to redeem ourselves for the trip we had to cancel last summer and finally make it out to this beautiful place. This was Riley’s first time staying at a National Park. He did great on hikes, but kept trying to bring nature back into the van in the form of forest debris. Still it’s better than sand.

We are back in the USA and back in our van, Char, with our favorite furry family member, Riley. Getting over jet lag was rough since we had so much to do, but we were focused on redeeming ourselves for the Acadia National Park reservations we had to miss last year. I’m so happy to be here 🌿🌲🪵

On our last full day in South Korea we wanted to push ourselves to the limits and go hiking at Bukhansan National Park. We got a little lost on our “3 hour” hike and ended up trekking 7 hours up and down to the tallest peak. We found amazing people to hike with which helped time fly, but I feel the pain in my thighs.

We tried to take a tour to the DMZ, but Covid got in the way. Instead we got to see Imjingak Park. I found it interesting to see North Koreans on the other side and sad to hear how families have been split by this strict border. I was fascinated by the freedom bridge where prisoners of war were exchanged when the fighting stopped and stands empty now.

Cities are the best spots for shopping and eating! I’ve enjoyed Isaac Toast for breakfast, more sweet desserts than I need and crispy fried chicken. Seoul is known well for its unique foods and skincare products, both of which I have sought out. I had my first ever soufflé pancake which was amazing and I bought enough to try to creat my own Korean skincare routine. I also visited Coex mall and Naemdong market for even more Seoul shopping experiences.

Say hello to the new Queen of Gyeongbokgung Palace! I had the MOST fun dressing up in hanbok and touring the palace. Michael even seemed to enjoy taking photos. Although if I was really queen there would need to be some changes… like I’m not sleeping alone

Our last full day in Busan was rainy outside, but we were happy and warm doing a cooking class with

Our teacher Min spent the day showing us how to make bibimbap, seaweed soup and jeon. After we ate we got to participate in a tea ceremony. I felt so at home and I learned so much. It was hard to leave such an inviting atmosphere, but eventually we did go. We ended up wandering to Haeundae beach and then enjoying bingsu before seeing a movie. A perfect rainy day.

I guess I didn’t get enough temples in Thailand and Cambodia because I had to make a stop at Haedong Yunggungsa Temple which sits auspiciously at the waters edge. I even bought a candle to make a wish while I was there. Then I went to Geumgang park to hike before relaxing in the baths of Hurshimchung Spa.

Hexagonal cliffs, waterfalls and sea shell museums add whimsy to the seaside town of Seogwipo on Jeju. Michael took over the planning for this portion of South Korea and I’ve loved following him around to see such natural beauty. Unfortunately though he thinks a 35 minute walk means something is close by- it’s starts to add up 😅

The Khmer New Year festivities are in full force. At first people seemed shy to spray me with water, but after I bought my own water weapon there was a full on war.

Before the festivities we spent time in the villages helping stitch leaf panels to prepare people houses for the monsoon season. I loved connecting with the locals and seeing their bashful children catch glances at me.

New country, same temple outfit! 😝 that’s what happens when you have to pack light!

I have arrived in Cambodia and had to make Angkor Wat my first stop. Then after seeing Angkor Wat and Bayon temple and sweating like crazy I went to a pottery class. We don’t have a lot of time here but I’m trying to do all I can- it’s going to be a busy week!
