The Meanderthals Theatre Company

The Meanderthals Theatre Company We are a troupe focused on bringing theatre back to the people! Using any and all means available: interaction, swordfights, masks, improv, and much more!

We are a troupe of traveling actors who are endeavoring to rediscover what theatre means to the world. With the easy accessibility to film and the increasing costs of theatre what makes people come to the stage? Maybe the stage should come to them! We are experimenting with all forms of theatre and what it means to bring theatre back to the people... whether it's outside, on the street, in a big p

layhouse, or in your backyard! Interaction, improv, scripted work, masks, commedia dell'arte shakespeare, classics, modern plays, interaction, sword fighting, etc etc! You name it! Follow our adventures! And tell us what makes theatre special for you!

This snapshot of a performance report from Children’s Theatre Company in Minneapolis has been floating around my Facebook feed. Created by the stage manager following every performance, it’s usually a pretty mundane document — a basic communication tool for people working on the current production t…

Happy birthday Shakespeare!

It's Shakespeare's (possible, but conjecturally extrapolated) birthday! Let's take a moment to celebrate the works of one of the world's greatest and most sensationalist storytellers. Part of the reason I enjoy Game of Thrones so much is that so much of its plot resembles a Shakespearean history pla…

From our Artistic Director:
Yesterday I went to the movies and today I went to the theatre. Both were great stories and I really enjoyed each. That being said there is just something about the theatre that is so magical. It leaves more to the imagination... it lets you dream. It lets you transform a dark room into a magical island, a castle, London in 1885, the french revolution, the old south, the english countryside, or even the moon... perhaps all on the same night! Movies paint you a beautiful picture, but theatre hands you the brush. I was reminded tonight of the answer to a question I often ask myself. Why theatre? Why is it important? Why does it still stand even though people say it's been dying out for a century? We have movies, youtube, etc... why should we pay a bunch of money to sit in the dark? Theatre has been around since before written history... it has withstood time. Perhaps it is because no where else can you sit in a room with a bunch of strangers and all imagine together... The audience is necessary. Theatre doesn't exist without an audience. And that combined power of imagination creates magic. You can feel it. It's tangible. Theatre is magic. It's good to be reminded that magic exists... and it exists within us.

A lovely review from A Beast in a Jungle. Last show of "Tales of Poe" is tonight. Don't miss it!

I didn’t realize how deep I was to be buried in Edgar Allan Poe’s world when I went to see Tales of Poe at The Flight Deck in Oakland. Even after the show had finished I didn't fully understand all...

Show number 3 starts in an hour! Come on down and experience "Tales of Poe"!
