We’ve stopped at Bow Lake Viewpoint a bunch of times. 🏔️

But did you know that just a short way off the highway is Bow Lake Lodge, with views of Bow Lake Falls and Bow Glacier?

Neither did we.

And now we’re wondering how we missed it before. 😂

This little stop turned into one of those “well, that was worth pulling over for” moments on our Calgary to Jasper travel day.

Only downside was the parking. It’s limited, and it fills up fast, so this is probably one of those stops where earlier is better.

Still tired. Still behind schedule. Still glad we found it.

Bow Lake Viewpoint hits a little different when you’ve been there before with the whole crew. 🏔️

This stop made the list on our Calgary to Jasper travel day, but it also brought us right back to 2023 when we had the family here with us.

Same blue water. Same big mountains. Different trip. Different pace.

That’s one of the best parts of travelling. Some places are worth stopping for again, even when you’re running on 3 hours of sleep and airport snacks.

Not a bad way to start a tired travel day. 🏔️

This is the view of Banff from Mount Norquay, and honestly, this stop helped reset the whole day a bit.

We were running on about 3 hours of sleep, late luggage, a long rental car line, and the usual “did we forget something?” energy.

But then you get up here, look down over Banff, and suddenly the rough start feels a little less rough.

Not perfect. Still tired. Still behind schedule.

But worth the stop.

Does anyone know what this is? 🦌🐻

It looks like we’re driving into a tunnel, but the real road is actually above us.

This is a wildlife overpass. There are several of these between Calgary, Banff, and Lake Louise, built to help animals cross safely without wandering onto the highway.

The fencing along the road helps guide wildlife toward these crossings instead of into traffic. Pretty smart, really.

Bears, elk, deer, wolves, and other animals get a safer path. Drivers get fewer “please don’t run out now” moments.

One of those little road trip details that makes you appreciate how much thought goes into travelling through the mountains.

I’m not much of a wine guy. 🍷

But there’s a charcuterie board in our future, so apparently this is now part of the mission.

Problem is, there are about 700 choices here and I know almost nothing about wine. Red? White? Something with a nice label? The one on sale? 😂

For those of you who actually know what you’re doing, how do you pick a good wine?

Drop your advice below before I come home with something that tastes like regret.

This one started rough. 😴

Three hours of sleep, baggage delays, a rental car line that felt longer than the flight, and a Calgary to Jasper drive that was not exactly off to a smooth start.

But sometimes the right stops can save a tired travel day.

We hit Mount Norquay, Bow Lake, Peyto Lake, Waterfowl Lake, Panther Falls, Athabasca Glacier, and finally rolled into Jasper. We also saw some of the wildfire damage on the way in, which definitely changed the mood a bit.

Not every travel day is perfect. Some are just part survival, part scenery, and part “why did we think this was a good idea?” 😂

Griffith Observatory is one of those LA stops that looks iconic in the photos. The real question is whether it’s worth your limited time when you’re trying to do the city in a day. 🎬🌥️

I always thought Guylaine was an angel. Turns out Griffith Observatory had proof. 😇📍

This stop was part of our attempt to do Los Angeles in one day. Griffith Observatory, the Hollywood sign, the Walk of Fame, Beverly Hills, Santa Monica Pier, and a whole lot of traffic in between.

That Hollywood sign view from Griffith Observatory looks pretty good in a photo. Getting there as part of a one-day LA run is a different story. 😅🎬

We tried to do Los Angeles in one day and packed in Griffith Observatory, the Walk of Fame, Beverly Hills, and Santa Monica Pier.

This wasn’t the polished postcard version. It was the real one. Traffic. Crowds. Rushed stops. And that constant question in the background. What’s actually worth your time when you’ve only got one day?

LA in one day? We had to find out. 🎬🌴

We tried to hit Griffith Observatory, the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Beverly Hills, and Santa Monica Pier all in a single day. This is not the postcard version of LA. It’s the real one. Traffic, crowds, rushed stops, and trying to figure out what’s actually worth your time when you don’t have much of it.

If you’ve ever planned a quick getaway and thought, “Can we actually pull this off in a day?” this one’s for you.
