If you’re planning an Alaska cruise, your departure city actually changes the entire experience. Here’s the breakdown 👇

✨ Cruising Out of Vancouver
✔️ More scenic cruising through the Inside Passage from day one
✔️ Smoother waters = less motion sickness for many travelers
✔️ Often longer Alaska port times
✔️ More one-way itineraries to Seward/Whittier (great for adding Denali or inland Alaska)
✔️ Usually preferred for travelers focused on scenery + glaciers

BUT…
❌ International flights can cost more
❌ Vancouver embarkation/customs can take longer

✨ Cruising Out of Seattle
✔️ Easier + cheaper flights for many U.S. travelers
✔️ Round-trip itineraries are super convenient
✔️ Larger ships with more onboard entertainment and family activities

BUT…
❌ More time in open Pacific waters
❌ Can be rougher sailing
❌ Often shorter Alaska port times because ships must stop in Canada before returning to the U.S.

🏔️ My takeaway:
• Choose Vancouver if you want the most scenic Alaska experience
• Choose Seattle if convenience, budget, and family-friendly ships matter most
