🚢 Did you know that a DUI could keep you from taking an Alaska cruise?
Here’s something many travelers don’t realize:
🇨🇦 Canada has strict entry laws regarding DUI convictions, and even a DUI from years ago could prevent you from entering the country.
👉 So what does that have to do with an Alaska cruise?
🛳️ Many Alaska cruises include a stop in Canada, often in Victoria or Vancouver. Even if your cruise departs from Seattle and returns to Seattle, you could still encounter problems if you have a DUI on your record.
❗Think you can just stay on the ship in Canada? Not necessarily! Canadian immigration requirements may still apply, even if you don’t plan to get off the ship. You could even be denied boarding at the beginning of your cruise.
❓What if your DUI was 10, 15, or even 20 years ago?
There’s good news! Depending on when your offense occurred, when you completed your sentence, and your criminal history, you may qualify for something called deemed rehabilitation, which could allow you to enter Canada without special permission.
✈️ My travel advisor tip: Don’t wait until you’re at the cruise terminal to find out there’s a problem! Verify your eligibility with Canadian immigration authorities and check with your cruise line BEFORE booking.
