Sam Rayburn Lake rangers along with Texas Parks and Wildlife game wardens, and community partners recently removed a 13'3" nuisance gatore from the lake. "Big Jasper" will live out his days at Gator Country Beaumont Texas.

Be safe out there everyone!

Angelina County Sheriff’s Office, Lufkin Police, Nacogdoches County Sheriff's Office, Nacogdoches Fire Dive Team, Lufkin Fire Department and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Game Wardens responded to a call around 1 p.m. today of a man missing from his boat on Kurth Lake.
The missing man’s boat was found in a cove, and emergency responders deployed rescue boats and drones in the search.
Divers located the missing man’s body not far from his boat.
Pct. 4 Justice of the Peace Rodney Cheshire has ordered an autopsy.

🥹 John Ellender WON the Fall Shootout at Rayburn. His first 15 minutes of fishing netted him his personal best- a 9.31 bass and 7.00+ bass. But the real story is below. John and his dad fished together since he was a little boy and his dad taught him everything he knows about fishing! They fished the Big Bass Splash tournaments together for 20+ years. It’s one of the most unique aspects of the Big Bass Splash, the legacy of families, generations of families, fishing together year after year. John’s dad’s health has declined and unfortunately he’s not been able to fish for a while so wouldn’t you know there was one place on John’s mind on his way home from Sam Rayburn. John brought the trophy to his dad’s house and dedicates this win to him! It sits on the shelf by his chair. We celebrate you, John. Not just for your BIG WIN but your heart and spirit to honor your father. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Congratulations to the 2024 Fall Shootout Champion, John Ellender! 🎉🎉🎉🎉
