Tarpon season isn't over yet, folks! 🌊 Remember, catching and releasing tarpon helps preserve the population for future generations. Follow these tips to ensure a healthy release:
✋ Handle minimally. Touching fish can remove their protective slime. If needed, use wet, clean hands—never a gaff or lip-grips.
🐟 Support the fish. When lifting from the water, support both the head and belly, and keep air exposure short. NOTE: Tarpon over 40 inches MUST remain in the water and please do NOT drag a tarpon onto the beach.
📷 Prep first. Get your camera ready before lifting the fish for a photo.
⏰ Keep it quick. Shorten fight time to avoid exhaustion and reduce the risk of shark attacks post-release. If sharks approach, please break the Tarpon off to let it swim freely to evade predators.
Catch, admire, release—responsibly. 🐟
