In February, HOME AWAY and VRBO made a lot of changes to their software along with that they began charging travelers who BOOK and PAY through their online sites a 4-10% SERVICE FEE, payable directly to the company. This is in addition to subscription amount that the Rental owners had already paid to sign up on VRBO and homeaway. There is no additional service being provided for that service fee. As an owner what I think I am charging for rental is not what is being shown in quotes. Additionally the renter and owner’s have no way of communicating and any e-mails that have any kind of contact information just disappear. So I might think I have passed along some information but it never is passed to other person. Owners pay mightily to advertise on VRBO and guests should not have to pay a "finders fee" to book a vacation rental from these sites. They do not even give any additional guarantee of Vacation rental or its condition as they are not the owners just the site represent.
HOME AWAY has been served with a class action suit as the introduction of this fee in mid-contract has substantially altered the original terms and agreements and resulted in higher prices being quotes to renters which Rental Owners aren't even aware of.
