Restoration Part III…
One thing about restoring an old Chesapeake workboat—
not every step happens in perfect order.

Long before some of the structural rebuilding began, the pilothouse itself was already being carefully cut, reshaped, and reimagined.

Lines were adjusted.
Openings were recut.
Dimensions were refined to preserve the integrity of the original boat while preparing her for an entirely new purpose.

At the same time, reinforcement work continued throughout the hull and framing beneath it all.

Some parts of restoration look dramatic.
Some look slow and technical.

But every phase mattered.

Because bringing the Lois Ann into her next chapter meant balancing preservation with vision—honoring where she came from while thoughtfully preparing her for where she was headed next.

This is where the transformation truly started taking shape. ⚓️

Restoration Part II…
To move forward… we first had to uncover everything time had hidden.

Years of paint, wear, and working life were carefully stripped away from the hull and decks—layer by layer.

Some days looked less like restoration and more like demolition.

But beneath all of it was the craftsmanship that made the Lois Ann worth saving in the first place.

This wasn’t about making her new.
It was about preserving what made her real.

⚓️ Built in 1973 on Tilghman Island.
⚓️ Restored over 4+ years with intention.

The deeper we got into the process, the more her story revealed itself.

The Lois Ann didn’t become what she is today overnight.

Four and a half years ago, this Chesapeake workboat was stripped down to almost nothing in order to bring her back the right way.

The old engine came out.
The interior was gutted.
Years of hard work on the water slowly uncovered layer by layer.

Not glamorous.
Not quick.
But deeply worth it.

Because this restoration was never about turning the Lois Ann into something she wasn’t.

It was about preserving the spirit of a boat that spent years working these waters alongside Lois and her husband—and giving that story a way to continue on for generations to come.

Follow along & share with others as we uncover the full restoration journey and the vision that slowly took shape along the way—piece by piece, season by season, over four and a half years.

And this was the first step in bringing the Lois Ann back to life. ⚓️

Before there was Tides & Traditions…
there was Lois Ann.

Long before the vision for this boat to carry sunset cruises and curated experiences across the Chesapeake, it carried a life built around the water.

For years, Lois worked beside her husband aboard this very boat—culling crabs, running lines, sorting catches, and helping earn a living from the Bay.

Not for recreation.
Not for recognition.
Simply because this was life on Maryland’s Eastern Shore.

In a culture where the stories of Chesapeake watermen are often remembered, many of the women who worked quietly alongside them rarely were.

That’s part of why this restoration means so much to us.

When we found the Lois Ann, we didn’t just see an old workboat.
We saw history.
Craftsmanship.
A disappearing way of life tied deeply to the rhythms of the Chesapeake.

Over the last four 1/2 years, this boat has undergone a complete restoration—not to erase her past, but to honor it.

Today, the Lois Ann is becoming the heart of Tides & Traditions: a place where people can slow down, reconnect, and experience the Chesapeake in a way that feels intentional and deeply rooted in tradition.

Some boats carry passengers.
Some carry history.
And some are given a second life so those stories can continue to be felt for generations to come. ⚓️
