THIRTY-THREE YEARS!
Dail Dinwiddie was last see about 1:30am on September 24, 1992. She attended a U2 concert the night before and then went with friends to Jungle Jim’s, a popular hangout for college students in the Five Points area of downtown Columbia.
Dail lost track of her friends and went outside to check the parking lot. When she returned she approached the bar’s bouncer and told him she was separated from the group of friends she was with earlier.
Dail was alone when she left the bar a short time later. The bouncer noted that she appeared to be in a hurry. She cut through the parking lot of the bar and rushed up the street towards the intersection of Harden and Greene Streets without stopping, then faded from view. She inadvertently left her purse behind.
At the time of Dail’s disappearance security cameras were not widely used for surveillance of the Five Points area, and cell phones were not commonly used in 1992 either.
Dail has light brown hair and brown eyes. At the time of her disappearance, she was 5 feet tall and weighed approximately 95 pounds, and she had blonde highlights in her hair. She has pierced ears and dimples when she smiles. One finger on each of her hands is deformed and curves slightly, and Dail had severe asthma and allergies when she went missing. At the time, she was getting allergy shots twice a week and used an inhaler to control her asthma.
Although her case is cold, it is still considered an active investigation and both law enforcement and Dail’s family have vowed to keep up the search until they get some answers.
