According to Expedia's Unpack '26 report, farm stays are becoming one of travel's fastest-growing experiences, with 84% of travelers interested in staying on or near a farm. But this trend goes well beyond booking a rural escape. Today's travelers are looking for authentic, hands-on experiences that reconnect them with food, nature, and the people behind both.
We heard this theme repeatedly in our recent Taste of Place Summit podcast interviews. From berry picking and long-table dinners to meeting local producers and learning where food comes from, travelers are craving experiences that feel genuine, educational, and rooted in place. As Chef Jenni Lessard shared, "the food is the story"—and it's the farmers, artisans, and makers who bring destinations to life.
The opportunity goes beyond opening the farm gate. Think food and farm trails, chef collaborations, seasonal harvest events, behind-the-scenes farm tours, or packages that connect farms with nearby accommodations, breweries, wineries, and attractions. These partnerships encourage visitors to stay longer while creating a richer story about your destination.
Farm Charm is about helping visitors build a meaningful connection with the people, places, and flavors that make your destination unique. Expedia's data suggests that's exactly the kind of experience more travelers are looking for.
