So much heartache right now, and of course traveling on hold. Yesterday we walked around the empty (perfect for social distancing), yet stunning, University of San Diego campus.
If you have school age kids, probably 2nd/3rd grade or older, and finding yourself suddenly a homeschooler with schools shut down for COVID-19, I wanted to share an academic enrichment idea I'm having the kids work on, that they seemed excited about working on, instead of pushing math, english, etc. LOL. And maybe they'll start to develop vacation planning skills (to me that's a good life skill) and start appreciating all the work I do to plan for these trips, haha!
In light of our Maui Spring Break trip being cancelled and dreaming of a vacation someday when this is all behind us…they have to pick a bucket list place in the world they'd like to travel to as a family. That alone may require research to figure out what is on their bucket list.
Then, they are to research this bucket list place, and create a Google Slides presentation on it, and deliver their presentation to the the family. Who knows, maybe we'll be so persuaded we'll put it on our vacation list someday.
Here are the questions they need to consider answering and put into their verbal presentation and their visual slide show.
Where do you want us to go?
Why do you want us to go there?
Where is it located?
When is the best time of year to go?
What is the weather like?
If it’s a country, which parts of the country would we visit?
Where could we stay?
What is this place like?
What kinds of things would we do, specifically?
What does it look like?
Any historical or fun facts to know about this place?
How would we get there? (Car, plane?) and How long would it take to get there?
Figure they are getting research skills, Google slide show skills, presentation skills, persuasive skills, etc. by doing this activity.
