We had the opportunity to stay at the Majestic Colonial Punta Cana a few months ago.
This is a decent budget resort. There are a few maintenance issues but I believe this resort will be going to through a renovation in a few years.
We stayed in a Colonial Club junior suite (adult side with extra amenities, a butler, pool and a private area on the beach. The room and balcony were spacious. The only thing we did not care for was the open concept bathroom. The toilet area (very small) and shower had glass doors. No privacy at all.
We had a few issues with the room but they were repaired quickly. We also noticed missing tiles at the main pool. There were missing roof tiles on the main building which caused leaks during a torrential rain (that lasted over 24 hours). This was from a hurricane that hit the area a month prior.
There are three pool (2 Colonial Club) and a large main pool. The pools are shallow (less than 4 feet deep). They were never crowded except by the pool bars.
The swim-up rooms face the pools but there is no easy way to get into pool from your patio. This also seems to be the room category that sells out and I have read complaints about people not getting that room when they check in.
The beach area was wide and every morning they worked to clear the sargassum. There was some in the ocean but not enough to deter myself and other guests. They lost some palm trees, palapas and the wedding gazebo from the hurricane but you could not tell at all. They were very quick to rebuild and level the beach.
The food was decent and we could always find something to eat. I have many food sensitivities so we mostly ate at the buffet. The ala carte restaurants looked good but after looking at the menu, there was not much that I could eat. We did dine at Le Gourmet for one breakfast and a dinner. The food was exceptional.
The service at this resort was amazing. Everyone always had a smile on their face and would do anything to help you. Our butler Yulien was great and checked on us every day, he always made sure our mini bar was filled with water.
The Majestic Elegance was not open yet as they were finishing up the renovation.
I was able to do a site inspection at the Majestic Mirage. This is the nicest resort out of all three. Every room category comes with a butler. There is a family side and an adult side. The lead in room category is the one bedroom suites. There is a door that separates the living area and bedroom/bathroom. This would give you some privacy when using the open concept bathroom. This resort also has a coffee shop which seemed very popular
