That's what workers earned in 1845 to dig what would eventually become the beautiful Grand Lake St. Marys we know today.

When we purchased one of our properties, a handful of old postcards were left behind. These snapshots from another era offer a glimpse into the stories, memories, and generations that enjoyed Grand Lake long before us. There's something special about holding a piece of history in your hands and imagining the people who helped create this remarkable place.

Our love for local history runs deep, and these postcards inspired us to learn even more about the fascinating story of Grand Lake... from its beginnings as a hand-dug canal reservoir to the lake destination it is today.

After a very competitive interview process, Comfort Acres has officially hired our 2026 Summer Intern Team.

Qualifications included:
• Ability to skim pools with minimal complaining
• Experience pulling w**ds
• Strong snack break management skills
• Occasional cooperation
• Popsicles for payment

When we say family-owned and operated, we mean it. Around here, summer prep involves the whole crew helping get our properties ready for guests… from cleaning up outdoor spaces to helping with the little behind-the-scenes tasks that keep everything running.

So if you’re staying with us and happen to spot a rogue w**d or two, please direct all complaints to the interns. They are fully trained, highly confident, and very easy to find.

Shoutout to the MVP, Katie… the one who thinks of others first, keeps everything moving, loves our kids and our guests like crazy, and somehow makes it all look easy. I know you wouldn’t approve this because you don’t ask for the spotlight, but it’s well deserved…
You’re the calm in the chaos and the one making sure we have everything we need (even the random stuff like an anti-choking device 😂). You keep things fun, creative, and real… and you’ve definitely made “Mom!” the most used word in our house.
Comfort Acres works because of you. Your ability to believe in things before others can see them is inspiring. You show up every day and take care of all of us in ways that don’t always get seen.
