Quick tip for anyone booking Italy travel this year:

Don't pick your hotel by star rating. Pick it by neighborhood.

We've booked 7 Italy trips in the last 6 months (cruises + land tours), and the #1 mistake I see people almost make: beautiful 5-star hotel in a terrible location.

Example: A hotel near Rome Termini might look great on paper. But Termini is loud, chaotic, and not where you want to spend your evenings.

Better move: Trastevere or near Piazza Navona (my favorite). Quieter. More authentic. Walking distance to everything that matters.
Same logic for Venice, Florence, and Naples.
Location > Amenities, every single time.

One of my favorite parts of this travel agency thing: I get to help plan celebrations for people I've never met.

A colleague at work mentioned his mom is turning 60 this year and wants to do a group cruise with family and friends.

He'd never worked with a travel agent before. Didn't really know what I could do that other travel sites couldn't.

So I said, "Let me quote it. If I can't beat or match the price and add some value, you don't have to book with me."

That's how most of my bookings happen. Someone's planning a trip anyway. They mention it in conversation. I offer to quote it. They're usually surprised by either the price or the guidance (or both).

The colleague's mom cruise is still in the planning phase, but it's a good example of how this business actually works:
I'm not cold-calling people.
I'm not running ads.
I'm not chasing leads.
I'm just paying attention to conversations and offering to help when it makes sense.

One of the biggest misconceptions about using a travel agent:

That you have to pay us a fee just to book your trip.

You don’t!

I don’t charge clients to plan their travel. I’m compensated by the hotels, cruise lines, and tour operators — the same vendors you’d book with on your own.

My job isn’t to upsell you. It’s to advocate for you, help you get the best value for your trip, and make sure nothing important gets overlooked.

If I can’t offer something better — or at least equal — I’ll tell you that too.
