It's elk calving season in the Rockies, so if you’re visiting the Canadian Rockies with Rocky Mountaineer between May and July, it’s a great time to spot roaming wildlife🦌.
During this season, female elk are very defensive of their young and may be more aggressive towards humans when they feel threatened. So if you come across an elk calf, be sure to give the animals lots of space and avoid getting in between the elk.
Remember - wildlife are wild. Here are some tips for viewing elk while maintaining a safe and responsible distance:
• Be aware of your surroundings and give wildlife lots of space
• Never surround or crowd an animal
• Maintain a safe distance (3 bus lengths, or 30 metres for elk)
• Never feed any wild animals
• Use a telephoto or zoom lens and don't try to capture any selfies with animals!
