This week is National Farmers Market Week, and we’re kicking it off with a closer look at a true Gaston County gem: Sandcastle Farm, a Century Farm that’s been in the Rhyne family since 1912.
You may know it as a wedding venue or a peaceful place to spend a fall afternoon, but to Bill Rhyne, it’s always just been home.
“My grandfather bought this farm in 1912. He raised pigs and sweet potatoes, that was his main crop. The biggest crop we raise here now is soybeans.”
The name Sandcastle comes from the sand once pulled from the South Fork River, a quiet detail that’s shaped generations of family farming in Dallas, NC and stands as a reminder of the roots that run deep in Gaston County.
