History becomes uncomfortable when old schoolbook claims meet physical evidence. 👀

Wood found at L’Anse aux Meadows in Newfoundland shows that Norse people worked there in 1021. Researchers dated the timber by matching tree rings with a known burst of cosmic radiation recorded in 993.

That places Vikings in North America about 470 years before Columbus reached the Caribbean in 1492.

Yet saying Vikings “discovered America” creates another problem. Indigenous peoples had lived across these lands for thousands of years before either European voyage. Evidence proves early Norse presence, not first human discovery.

History often rewards the person whose journey entered European records while overlooking people who already called a place home. Updating that story does not erase anyone. It makes the record more honest.

Should schools rewrite the Columbus story? 🤔

Good morning .... ⛰️⛰️🌊🌊Here at the mouth of the Blyde River Canyon, the two rivers formed swirling eddies of water. Over time, this formed huge cylindrical potholes in the sandstone bedrock. The effect, seen from the crags above, is now a fascinating network of tunnels and tubes and interconnected whirling pools. The different soil levels in each hole give them each a unique color and makes for a striking and colorful landscape.🌊⛰️
