As I mentioned in my last post, this unusually rainy weather this spring has caused a great number of problems beyond the loss of nearly a thousand dollars worth of our equipment. I'm an electronics technician, so I should be able to repair my equipment, IF I can get the time to do so!

As I might have mentioned earlier, I am retired but only draw a meager retirement income so I started this business to try to supplement it. Now, with the loss of my equipment, I can't supplement it, and due to the unusually large amount of rain we've had I found that it's not only damaged my equipment but it's also causing an imminent collapse of a roof. I just don't have sufficient income to repair or replace my equipment, and repair the roof at the same time, so I'm sorry to say, but the roof over my head has to come first.

Again, I don't have the thousands of dollars to hire a contractor to come in and get it done in just a few days, so I'm having to do everything myself as I get the money to do it.

I was raised on a large farm and learned very early in life that if something broke, fix it! At first, the only time we hired anybody to do something was if we had a part that had broken and needed welding. Then my dad bought his own welder and by the time I was eight years old or so I could weld almost as good as my dad! I've always been known as a "jack of all trades', so yes I can fix a roof, repair my equipment, or whatever else is needed, it just takes one thing I don't have, the time and money to get everything done at once.

So until I can get these more important items taken care of, we'll have almost shut our doors.

I say 'almost', because I still have main speakers, and one low power amp (around 800 watts) and my friend will loan me his powered mixer so if it's just a small venue I can still handle it. I am just not able to cover the 'full band' jobs.

Again, I'm sorry for this, but Nature does what it does! And in this case it's set me back thousands of dollars I just don't have!

When it rains it pours!!!
We at RCM Audio have supplied quality service to many customers from big bands to backyard barbeques birthday parties and all, but this past weekend was the worst weekend ever for us! We were booked for a young girl's thirteenth birthday party , so no problem. Easy. WRONG!
I found that where I had my equipment stored had leaked and ruined nearly a thousand dollars worth of equipment! A friend of mine came to our aid and loaned me enough equipment to do the show, but his equipment used different speaker cables than mine. He loaned me one of his and I found another one of my own so we were set to go.

It was storming when I left so I had to grab equipment and load it during a lull in the storm. I got to the site of the event and started setting up only to find that I had grabbed the wrong speaker cable! I had to rig a makeshift cable out of a very small audio cable, and hope the power I was sending through it to the speaker didn't burn it out.
Well, with that done, I started the show. The 'birthday girl' was supposed to like country music, and I had that in abundance on my computer so I started playing some.
Then they wanted to hear some dance music! Ok, no problem, I had purchased an extra plan on my cellphone where I could hook it to my computer and get anything they wanted. BUT... My plan only worked if I was on the same network. In the area I was in my phone was 'roaming'!

An aunt of the birthday girl was talking to me and saw my problem and offered her cellphone to use, but it didn't work either. Her daughter was there with us so she had her get her cellphone to try. It worked!

So thanks to this cute freckle faced girl who I only know as 'Wild Child' the night was saved. She played all the different music everyone was requesting and later I spoke to the 'birthday girl' and she said that yes, she had a good time even though I had all my problems.

I'm still curious as to the name of 'wild child' (her own mama called her that!) but I'll probably never find out, but she did save the night for me.

So that brings me to the main objective of this post. I will have to stop any more bookings for at least the near future, until I can either repair or replace my damaged equipment. I can possibly do small gigs like I did last weekend (with bringing the right cables hehe) if my buddy lets me use his equipment, but I couldn't put on a show like I could if all of my equipment was working.

So contact me if you have something that isn't too demanding and we'll work out arrangements to provide your service. If you need anything like high powered outdoor equipment, or multiple mics and monitor speakers then I just can't provide that at this time. Sorry...

As much as I hate this, all my work on setting up our own website has suddenly failed. We had a severe thunderstorm that took out our entire network but our network provider replaced the equipment with no problem, however the new equipment will not allow any 'port forwarding' which is required to actually access our computers hosting the website! So for this reason we cannot offer a website at this time for you to check out our services, and all references to the internet address 'rcmaudio.com' will not work. We have a new web address. Instead of having two domains pointing to the same site I waited until my lease expired on the old one before obtaining our new one. You will find an entire new site too. The old site management software was difficult to use and too many things just didn't work so I'm now using a much more 'user-friendly' program, and so far, every feature I've added has worked!

Want to have a party? Any kind! Birthday party, graduation party, Fourth of July party, or just for the sake of having a party? We have recently expanded our services to include stage and disco lighting to enhance your party experience!
The 'disco' lights include two multi color 'disco ball' style lights and two directional 'pattern' lights. Both can be set to either automatic operation or sound activated, plus the directional pattern lights can be computer controlled. Also a 'moving head beam light' which can be used either as a multi color moving spotlight or as a white 'spotlight' for highlights for special occasions, such as the blowing out of candles on a birthday cake, or the introduction of the 'guest of honor' at a graduation party and such. This is also one of the "stage' lights that is capable of being able to 'follow' the 'guest of honor' or a lead performer in an 'on stage' event. The 'stage lighting' also includes three 'pin spots' which are white spotlights aimed at stationary positions to highlight three performers on stage. These are lower power, stationary versions of the moving head light and in combination we can highlight three stationary performers and a fourth 'main performer' with the higher powered main 'moving head' light which can follow the performer on stage.

We are open for business but business is slow right now because of the weather. We realize that our business will be like this, mostly seasonal during the summer months, for cookouts and things. But remember, we are here to help with any event, not just outdoor events.

I have set up equipment and provided services in nursing homes, churches, restaurants, bars, nightclubs, and even modest sized living rooms. Our actual equipment only takes around four square feet of floor space so any space that is big enough to hold any performers you have plus about four square feet for the equipment and you can have professional audio support for your event no matter where it's held.

So if you want to get an early start on the summer season why not hold an "indoor cookout!" Birthday parties are another year round event that can benefit from our audio services!

For any of you that are wondering about the weird website address, here's why. I've had the domain name 'theprofessorsplayground' for a few years now, solely for my own use. The service provider I'm on has a 'dynamic IP address' system, where every time there's an interruption in our connection for even a fraction of a second, my "IP" address (which is four sets of numbers divided by periods) will change. To be able to reach my computer while I was 'on the road' I invested in a service that gives me a 'domain name' (in this case 'theprofessorsplayground.com') and forwards it to my computer no matter what my actual IP address is. (Called a 'dynamic domain name service')
I still have a few months to go on the lease for this name so I'm using it instead of registering another domain name at this time. I will be getting another domain name as soon as this one runs out just for RCM Audio, and i will announce it as soon as I get it. (I will also have to print new business cards, etc. but oh well! Like I said we're just getting started so we're going to have growing pains!)

I will have the same website, it's just that you will reach it through another address. So until I announce our new website address you can use the 'https://www.theprofessorsplayground.com/rcmaudio' address to find out what we are all about.

I'm slowly getting details together, but only for my website, business card details and such. We can provide you the services any time you wish! It's been over a month and a half since I started working with my website. I've had nothing but troubles! It took forever waiting on my antique server to update any page, then I found out I had missed a step in the configuration so that when I started actually adding content it didn't display right, so I ripped it out and started over again. Still had the delay problems, and I think the server had corrupted some of the main files due to the delay. Broke down and got a new server and now the installation has went perfectly! If you're wondering about the weird address, I already had the 'theprofessorsplayground' domain registered with about five months to go so I'm just using that for my site until that domain runs out before getting another one! I'll update this site with the new one as soon as I get it.
