Have you met the Peanut Vendor in Miami?
Francisco has been strolling the streets of Little Havana selling peanuts for over 54 years! Peanut salesmen are commonly seen in Cuba, selling roasted peanuts in thin paper cones. It's a popular business there, but Francisco is the only liscenced peanut vendor in Little Havana! For only $1 you can purchase a cone of peanuts from him.
There's even a song about these salesmen called "El Manisero" or "The Peanut Vendor" from 1931. The song is considered to be a "son-pregón", or a street vendor's cry. The first few lyrics go:
Maní
(Peanut)
Maní
(Peanut)
Si te quieres por el pico divertir
(If you want to have fun for the hell of it)
Cómete un cucurruchito de maní
(Eat a peanut cone)
Qué calentico y rico está
(How warm and delicious it is)
Ya no se puede pedir más
(You can't ask for more)
