The travel industry feels especially chaotic right now. Policies change overnight. Pricing fluctuates constantly (I'd like to have some words with whoever came up with "dynamic pricing"). Flights get shuffled around (hi, schedule change emails with 5-minute changes). Weather impacts itineraries. Technology glitches. Social media turns every minor issue into d-r-a-m-a. And this is where professional experience (and our accompanying perspective) really matters.
I’ve been in the travel industry for 12+ years, and, as the owner of Just Add Magic Travel® since 2018, one of the things I’m proudest of is building a team that genuinely cares about clients beyond the booking itself. Because this job is SO much more than plugging dates into a website.
What we actually do every day is guide people through an industry that is constantly changing. We troubleshoot. We advocate. We monitor situations before clients even realize there could be an issue. We lean on years of firsthand experience, supplier relationships, and ongoing training to help people make smart decisions with their time and money.
I’ve always had a bit of a mama bear approach to my clients. If you travel with us, we’re paying attention. We’re watching weather, policy changes, itinerary adjustments, and all of the little details that can make or break a trip. We’re the people sitting on hold with suppliers so you don’t have to. We’re the calm voice when the interwebs are convincing everyone that their vacation is doomed.
Anyone can technically “book travel.” And if you look at local neighborhood groups on Facebook, it sometimes feels like everyone is suddenly adding “travel agent” to their About section overnight. But there’s a very big difference between selling travel and professionally managing travel. Professional guidance, advocacy, supplier relationships, ongoing education, and real-world experience are the part of this role that people don’t always see until they truly need it...especially in times like these.
I’m incredibly grateful for the clients who continue to trust my agency and my team with their vacations, celebrations, family memories, and hard-earned money. We never take that trust lightly.
