It’s amazing how inspiration can show up in the simplest ways. My friend watched a video on Instagram about planting flowers and creating a garden space, and before I knew it, I was headed to the store to buy a tiller.

Today was spent turning soil, getting our hands dirty, and prepping the ground for what we hope will soon be a beautiful flower garden. There’s something therapeutic about working the earth, listening to the sounds around you, and imagining what’s about to grow.

Sometimes all it takes is one small spark of inspiration to get you moving toward something beautiful. 🌻

We love ❤️ thrifting on Chincoteague Island. Today we picked up this vintage 7’x7’ Western Field by Montgomery Ward camping tent, and it sure brought back a lot of memories. There’s just something special about old camping gear that takes you back to simpler days, family trips, and nights spent under the stars.

On this Memorial Day, we do not say “Happy Memorial Day.”

We pause to remember and honor the men and women who gave their lives in service to our country — and the families who carried that loss forever.

One of those heroes was my father’s youngest brother, Robert W. Holensworth, who died during World War II and is buried at the Normandy American Cemetery in Colleville-sur-Mer, France. Normandy American Cemetery

Robert was only 22 years old when his mother passed away. Two years later, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. The following year, his father passed away. My Uncle Robert was just 27 years old when he gave his life in Normandy during WWII.

As a veteran of the U.S. Navy, I hope that when my own life is remembered one day, people will understand why “Happy Memorial Day” never felt appropriate to me. Memorial Day is not about celebration or parties. It is a solemn reminder of the price paid for our freedom by those who never made it home.
