What’s one thing you always double-check before a trip?

Jenn and I are getting ready for our next cruise, and this is the point where we slow down and go back through the details one more time.

Before cruise week gets busy, we double-check three things:

• Travel documents and cruise check-in
• Arrival plans, transportation, and boarding details
• Last-minute items like luggage tags, medications, chargers, and reservations

We also use a more detailed checklist so nothing important gets overlooked.

A little preparation before the trip can mean a lot less stress once vacation starts.

One of the biggest mistakes in cruise planning is starting with “Which cruise line is best?”

There isn’t one best line for everyone.

The better question is: what kind of trip are you trying to have?

A couple looking for a quiet anniversary trip may make a very different choice from a family with kids, a first-time cruiser, or a group that wants nonstop activities.

For us, the trip can start well before we ever see the ship.

Flying in, arriving early, spending time together, and settling into the destination can all become part of the vacation.

Then comes embarkation day — and that moment you finally step onboard.

In Key West, we skipped the organized excursion and made our own day instead.

We took our time sightseeing, got away from some of the busiest tourist areas, visited places we might have missed on a tour, and ended up at El Siboney, a Cuban restaurant popular with locals.

That day reminded us that not every port needs a packed schedule. Sometimes leaving room to explore becomes part of the experience.

Would a private destination make you more likely to book the itinerary? 🌴

Not every Caribbean cruise stop is a traditional port.

Some cruise lines include private islands or exclusive destinations designed specifically for their guests, with beaches, pools, food, activities, and places to simply relax.

For some travelers, that kind of stop can make the itinerary even more appealing.
