Follow My Journey: Exploring Education in India
Join me as I embark on an unforgettable journey through India as part of the Fulbright Teachers for Global Classrooms (TGC) program. India, the world’s most populous nation, is a land of breathtaking contrasts and deep cultural roots, with a legacy of innovation, spirituality, and education that spans thousands of years.
From bustling cities to sacred rivers, I’ll be exploring how India’s diverse history and traditions shape modern education. One of the most powerful stops on this journey is Varanasi, the legendary City of Light. Believed to have been founded by Lord Shiva himself, Varanasi is one of the world’s oldest continually inhabited cities and a spiritual hub for Hindus and Buddhists alike. Just beyond the city lies Sarnath, where the Buddha gave his first sermon, setting the Wheel of Dharma in motion.
Throughout the experience, I will be exploring:
Shared Artistic Practices & Cultural Exchange
How can artistic collaboration between Indian and U.S. communities promote mutual understanding and appreciation of diverse traditions? In what ways can creative expression, shaped by Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam, Christianity, Sikhism, indigenous spiritual practices, and pluralistic ideologies, build common ground and foster cross-cultural respect?
Art Education for Social Justice
How do India and the U.S. use art and design education to promote activism, equity, and critical visual literacy? What barriers limit access, and how can educators create inclusive spaces for all learners regardless of background, gender, or ability?
Cross-Cultural Dialogue Through Art
How can artistic exchange elevate marginalized voices and encourage visual responses to social issues such as gender equality, environmental justice, and freedom of expression through culturally informed perspectives?
Collaborative Opportunities
What global projects can unite students and educators to advance social justice, enhance visual literacy, and expand access to quality art education through cross-cultural collaboration?
Through each post, I’ll be sharing stories of schools, students, and educators, woven into the rich fabric of India’s past and present. Follow the journey as I delve deeper into the power of education across cultures with the students of Sant Atulanand Residential Academy.
Let’s explore, learn, and grow together.
