Through Oct. 31, Brenz Pizza Co. is holding a fundraiser for Nationwide Children’s Hospital NICU. Order the Loaded Potato pizza, and 30 percent of the profit goes to the NICU through Team Brenz and the Columbus Marathon. The pizza lives up to its name, a faithful marriage of a loaded potato and a pizza, made with chunks of seasoned potato, bacon, caramelized onion and cheddar cheese on a garlic-butter base, finished with a garlic aioli swirl and fresh green onion. Brenz Pizza won the People’s Choice Award at Nationwide Children’s Slice of Columbus pizza competition in September.

Hunan Bistro is a new restaurant in the Bethel Center Mall (next to Kpot) specializing in Chinese grilled skewers. It’s very small with less than 30 seats.

Some of our favorite skewers were: chicken skin, lamb, chicken wings, Taiwanese sausage and fish tofu. But there’s a wide selection. Skewers can be ordered at different heat levels. I noticed a lot of Chinese diners were ordering stinky tofu skewers so if you’re curious to try it, it seems like a good spot.

Hunan Bistro also offers some vegetable sides, rice and noodle dishes. We particularly enjoyed the cucumber salad.

Taste of Dinner - October 14th

Johae Chong — longtime friend of CFA and owner of Don Pocha — never does anything halfway when it comes to sharing Korean culture through food. One of our most memorable ‘Taste of’ dinners was with him 2 years ago, and he’s clearly been dreaming up the next one ever since. 🇰🇷✨

His vision: “Korean Janchi – A Celebration Feast.” In Korea, janchi (잔치) marks major milestones — weddings, milestone birthdays — with a feast. Johae’s building this menu around traditional celebration foods dating back to the Joseon period, with a few modern twists woven in.
Expect a communal start — shared, family-style appetizers — before moving into individually plated courses.

The flow: Sharing → Celebration → Refresh → Feast → Longevity → Sweets 🥢

Last night’s Supper Club was our first collaboration dinner. Two chefs from Agni, and JJ Garlock paired to create an Asian inspired menu using seasonal Ohio ingredients and riffing off Ohio dishes such as goetta, Kewpie burgers and buckeyes. It was a fun and novel menu displaying both their skill and creativity. A wonderful reminder of how much talent we have in Columbus’ kitchens.
