I took students to the Gathering of Nations in the early 90’s and this year attended “The Last Dance”. It was still heartwarming and impressive. I will never forget the experience. Colors, regalia, dancing, drums and singing.
Very proud, patriotic Native Americans, rising up from past traumas, still sharing their culture and heritage.🌻

The final year of the largest powwow in the USA. Hundreds of dancers from many different tribes across North America were in attendance.

A good thing to support this weekend!

I’m excited to be part of Art For The Animals at the Turquoise Raven Art Gallery on Saturday, March 21st from 5–8 PM. 🐾🎨

This special evening brings local artists together to support two wonderful organizations: Blackhat Humane Society and For Pets' Sake.
I’ll have artwork in the show along with many other artists. All pieces are $350 and under, and a portion of ticket and art sales will benefit these animal organizations.

🎶 Live music by Cottonwood from 5:30–7:30 PM

Tickets:
• $10 admission
• $25 admission includes two glasses of wine

Tickets can be purchased at the gallery (cash or check).

Come enjoy an evening of art, music, and community while helping animals in need. I hope to see you there! 🐶🐱

The Art of Looking – Barbara Grist

For more than five decades, photographer Barbara Grist has been exploring light, composition, and the details that invite us to slow down. Living and creating between Cortez and Durango, she builds each image intentionally in the moment — trusting her eye and the discipline of the frame.

Her photographs, including past Arts Perspective cover features, reflect a lifelong commitment to craft and curiosity.

Asymmetrical: An Open Community Art Exhibit
Opening Reception: Friday, February 20 • 5-9pm
Studio & Gallery • 1027 Main Ave, Durango, Colo.

Studio & Gallery is proud to present our latest open group show, Asymmetrical. Please join us this Friday, February 20, 5-9pm as we host an opening reception. We invited everyone to be a part of this show and we are proud to display work from over 40 artists from around the community in a variety of mediums. This is truly a community exhibit with artists of all stages of their careers showing work, many for the first time.

In Asymmetrical, artists were invited to celebrate the cattywampus. We asked for their crooked creations, their odes to the oblong, their divergent drawings and invited them to interpret the theme of Asymmetrical. In a time where things can feel off kilter, we sought work that catches the spirit and pulse of that misalignment. Open to all mediums, participants were encouraged to reflect on the ragged, be that subtly or substantially, through subject, medium or process.

The exhibit will run February 20- 28

Come join me and the other artists in the show, bring friends and make a night on the town! It should be a fun community show!

I was honored and humbled to have this article written about me and my art over the years. Denise Leslie has a beautiful way of writing that explains the essence of my images and how I see the world.
Be sure to take some time to read her online magazine about the arts and artists in Southwest Colorado.

Some artists create work that doesn’t just hang on a wall — it stays with you. It hums quietly in your memory and invites you to look again.
