Holiday Train 2024.

The CPKC Holiday Train runs December 10th-16th, for its 26th year of spreading holiday cheer and raising money, food and awareness for people struggling with food insecurity.

So beautiful it is practically in Minnesota. A perfect spot to visit while staying in Duluth.

Amnicon Falls State Park is a state park of Wisconsin. The 828-acre park is located 19 miles southeast of the city of Duluth. It features a series of upper and lower waterfalls on the Amnicon River as it flows around a small island and under a historic covered bridge.

Historic Hastings Rail Lift Bridge is a vertical-lift bridge that spans the Mississippi River in Hastings.. It is one of only four lift spans on the Mississippi River, the others being at Hannibal Missouri, Burlington Iowa and in downtown St. Paul Minnesota. The first bridge was constructed here in 1870, this bridge was rebuilt in 1981 by Milwaukee Road and was designed by Howard, Needles, Tammen & Bergendoff.

It crosses the Mississippi river in a north–south orientation from Hastings just upstream of Point Douglas, where the Saint Croix River empties into the Mississippi river. In addition to CP Rail traffic, the bridge also carries Amtrak's Empire Builder across the river. The bridge is within sight of the 1893 Historic Hastings Depot.

Another nearby lift bridge is the Prescott BNSF lift bridge, in Prescott, Wisconsin that crosses the St. Croix River. The two tracks converge at the St. Croix interlocking tower.

Former Milwaukee Road depot in Hastings, Minnesota. Built in 1893, shortly after Milwaukee Road took over the Hastings and Dakota RR. It was acquired by the Soo Line in the 1980's and later absorbed into the Canadian Pacific. Amtrak's Empire Builder passes here every day.

Vermillion Falls in Hastings is a funneled torrent of water cascading through a chasm in the granite, past a large mill. In 1853 the mill was powered by the 35-foot tall falls. The ¼ mile round trip trail to the falls and observation deck is easily accessible and passes picnic sites to the river overlooks.

The Dakota City Heritage Village, a 1900-era history village and museum, located in Farmington, Minnesota, in the Dakota County Fairgrounds.

Settlers began arriving in Empire Township in the1850s. The village of Dakota City began and was then permanently changed its name and village charter in 1872 making Farmington the second oldest community in Dakota County after the county seat.
