Poznan, Poland, June, 2026

Amanda went for a walk to explore a part of the city we hadn’t visited before. From our hotel, she went West, then South once she reached the main train station (Poznan Głowny).

Poznan is full of history, full of amazing architecture, and full of very interesting neighborhoods to explore!

Just a small preview of some amazing Polish food we enjoyed at a restaurant by Poznan’s Stary Rynek (Old Market Square).

There was outdoor seating, which allowed us to enjoy the people walking around, and they even provide blankets for when the evenings get cool.

Every single morning, the staff at Hotel Weyh lays out an amazing, fresh breakfast.

This is my bowl of fruit that I have for every breakfast.

Figs, mango, strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, johanberries, kiwi, persimmons, honeydew, cantaloupe, grapes…..always lots of choice!

Travel Log: Pub Pod Trzema Miotłami (The Three Broomsticks Pub), Wrocław, Poland, June, 2026

Harry Potter Fans, we found another Pub! Feeling a little footsore, when it started drizzling, we sped up our walking to get back to the train station before the rain really started coming down.

As we walked by a set of stairs going into a basement, Amanda noticed the Deathly Hallows symbol on the window. Looking closer, we found a great place to hang out!

There were plenty of themed drinks, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic, some themed snacks, and a really cool vibe.

If you were in Wrocław, would you go to The Three Broomsticks Pub?

(As an FYI, the other HP pub we found is in Poznan!)

What do you think? Cool or creepy?

I love that there is history to it, but at the same time, there’s something slightly off about the lion….maybe? Or maybe it’s just me 😅.

I zoomed in on it near Park Solny in Wrocław — a heraldic lion relief tucked into the wall of one of the old townhouses.

From my research, I learned that:
— The lion was meant to act as a guardian, and the ring in its mouth was a “protector of the doorway” symbol.
— The shield with a second lion points to a family or guild coat of arms, the kind people used to mark their homes centuries ago.
— The two carved faces on the sides at the top were added to “watch over” the entrance and keep bad luck away.
— The shell above the lion is a Baroque detail that builders used to dress up important doorways.

I might not be able to pinpoint this on a map, but it’s an interesting piece of Wrocław’s pre‑war architecture still hanging on…..but I still find it creepy 😆.

Fontanna Smoki (Dragons Fountain), Parc Solny, Wroclaw, Poland, June, 2026

This is the smallest of the city maintained fountains. It was added to Parc Solny in 1997 as a part of the redevelopment of the Square.

When looking at it, you’ll notice that it has 4 dragon heads, with water coming from their mouths into a round stone basin.

The fountain was created by Tomasz Myczkowski and Ryszard Mazur.

The city maintained fountains run from April 1 until the end of October each year.

Where’s Amanda crocheting today?

Well, it was almost in Bamberg, Germany, but then when looking at the train schedule, we realized it was a 4 hour round trip (with changing trains multiple times, etc), and that would leave her only about 4 hours to explore.

Maybe if we come back over here in the future, it would be a great city to visit, but for today, she chose a bench and walked over.

To learn that 3 days of rain means that there isn’t a dry bench anywhere! Plus a 33° day isn’t really great for the fingers…..so back to the hotel, lol.

We’re both looking forward to our mini-trip to Salzburg at the end of the week. We’ve never been to Austria, so the chance to cross the border is exciting!

2 more balls of yarn to add to the body of the blanket, then a wide border to give it a bit more width, and it’ll be done!

Wrocław’s first Krasnale (dwarf/gnome)!

This is Papa Dwarf, and he is standing on the tip of a human finger.

He was installed on Ulica Swidnicka on the 1st of June 2001, and though he was the first in the city, we didn’t find him until almost the end of the day.

But how could this guy who started it all not get his own post!

The Orange Alternative: anti-communist graffiti was regularly painted over so that its unwanted message was no longer visible. Starting in August 1982, members of the movement began painting pictures of dwarfs over the painted-over graffiti. Because wouldn’t it be ridiculous if the government censored murals of dwarfs?

Over time, the colour orange became a response to communist red, and at protest events, participants began to wear orange headgear similar to gnome caps.

Thus the “Dwarf Uprising of Wroclaw” became a silent but obvious form of protest.
