Crosslakers Charting a course for Crosslake's future.

The Minnesota Design Team helps communities around Minnesota develop shared visions with physical and environmental designs. Crosslake was selected for a visit in September 2016 and 16 architects, landscape architects, urban designers, planners, and other experts in design and community development spent the weekend with Crosslake residents, seasonal residents, weekenders and visitors. We are excited to announce that City Council has approved to proceed with Phase 1 of the Park Master Plan, marking a significant step forward in enhancing community recreation opportunities.

Phase 1 will include the addition of four pickleball courts and the construction of a 48-stall parking lot with a connecting pathway to the courts. These improvements aim to accommodate the growing popularity of pickleball while ensuring accessibility and convenience for residents and visitors.

A huge thank you goes out to the Park Commission for their dedication to the Park Master Plan and to the Crosslake Pickleball Association for their incredible fundraising efforts. The CPA successfully raised over $70,000 to help make these new courts a reality, demonstrating the strong community support for expanding recreational amenities in Crosslake.

We are thrilled to see Phase 1 moving forward and are grateful for the collaboration and commitment of our community members. These enhancements will provide a valuable recreational space and further strengthen Crosslake’s reputation as a hub for outdoor activities.

Construction timelines and further project updates will be shared as they become available. Stay tuned!

Governor Tim Walz announced the 77th Minnesota Governor’s Fishing Opener will take place in Crosslake on May 9-10, 2025. Each year Explore Minnesota works with the Governor’s Office, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, and a Minnesota community to plan the event honoring the state’s rich tourism and fishing opportunities.
“I am thrilled to bring the longtime tradition of the Governor’s Fishing Opener to Crosslake,” said Governor Walz. “This region is known for its phenomenal fishing and outdoor recreation. It is also home to an incredible resort community, making Crosslake the perfect place to kick off summer.”

This is the first time the Governor’s Fishing Opener event will be held in the Crosslake area and provides a platform to showcase the area’s natural beauty, diversity of fish species, and hospitality. With more than 15 resorts in the area, the city of Crosslake is an important part of Minnesota’s storied resort community. The state’s network of resorts plays a prominent role in making summers in Minnesota the best in the Midwest, combining generational businesses with distinctive guest experiences and family traditions.

“We’re bringing the Governor’s Fishing Opener north again, and we are excited to celebrate in the Crosslake area,” said Lauren Bennett McGinty, executive director of Explore Minnesota. “Along with excellent fishing and outdoor recreation, this area of Minnesota boasts a strong community of resorts, some dating back almost 100 years. These small businesses have provided unique experiences for visitors to our state for generations and continue to make Minnesota the best place to enjoy summer."
The Governor’s Fishing Opener has been a tradition in Minnesota since 1948. The event was designed to promote the development of Minnesota’s recreation industry, and in recent years has served as a kick-off celebration for the summer tourism season.

By Pineandlakes Echo Journal
CROSSLAKE — The city of Crosslake received an award for being a Step 3 city in the Minnesota GreenStep program. Crosslake is one of 148 participating cities and tribal nations in the 14-year-old challenge, assistance and recognition program. “This award shows community members and other cities across Minnesota that the city of Crosslake is taking great steps in the direction of energy and resource conservation and innovation,” Patty Norgaard, community volunteer and GreenStep program lead for Crosslake, said in a news release. Crosslake has worked hard to implement best practice actions to meet their own sustainability goals with support from the GreenStep program and their peers, the news release said. Actions taken within the program focus on cost savings, energy use reduction, resource conservation, climate change and the encouragement of civic innovation.
