Fishing the we were 40 minutes from heading back to the ramp to make it to weigh-in and looking for a final redfish to put on the scorecard. Poling the across our last area after pushing into high winds all day called out a tail flash in a pothole that didn’t see at first glance. “12 O’Clock - 40 feet off the bow!” Quartering into the wind the angler points rod, shrimp jumps - “Right where the small splash is!” One back cast and he sets the crack fly perfectly. Line comes tight, nervous celebration, big yellow mouth comes crashing out of the water - “HOLY SH*T THATS A BIG A** TROUT!!!” The fish was fought to perfection and brought to the net skiff side. A quick measurement at 29-½” and this big girl went right back in the water. What a day to land a PB speckled trout on the fly rod during a redfish tournament!
