Today we arrived in Akureyri to a very foggy port. It seemed the clouds were very low and it would be a cloudy, foggy day. We decided not to do a tour, so we rented a car and just drive around the area to see the hot spots without 40 other people on a tour.

First stop was breakfast at Lyst, which is a small Cafe / coffee shop in the botanical garden. After that we took off for Grjótagjá lava cave. It used to be a small pool that was used fir bathing, but a volcanic eruption covered it up and left a small opening to crawl through. The water pool inside was a bright blue.

We then went to lunch at Vogafjoss Farm Resort. It is a working farm with a small restaurant. Great food and beer.

Off to a geo-thermal area at Hverir Hot Springs. Not the kind of hot springs that you want to swim in. There are several vents off gassing and the smell of Sulphur was incredible and hard to breath.

We then went to one of the popular waterfalls in Iceland at Godafoss Waterfall. The power of the rushing water was amazing.

Our third day (yesterday), we arrived in Seydisfjurdor, which is a very small town. When we looked out over our balcony, we saw huge jellyfish swimming by. We were on the 11th deck and they must have been the size of basketballs.

We took a late tender into port and just wandered around. According to signs around the town, it used to be bigger, but there was a huge landslide in 2020 that wiped out a large portion of the town. Many people left and never went back.

Haven't posted in a couple of days since we hit Reykjavik.

We landed at Keflavik and had a transfer from the airport to Fosshotel Baron in Reykjavik. We got there pretty early and our hotel rooms weren't ready yet. We dropped outlr bags and went walkabout. The temps were in the 50's and sunny. In the wind we wore our jackets, out of the wind we took them off.... off, on, off, on...

We had lunch at the Icelandic Bar which was small and very popular. One of the delicacies was fermented shark... nope, not gonna happen. They did have a good local dark beer.

We then walked along the "Rainbow Road" and visited several shops selling items made from Icelandic Wool. Along the way, there was a parade with a small band in the lead and then we discovered it was a wedding party that was coming from the church. (See videos in the comments). At the end of the Rainbow Road is Hallgrimmskirkja (kirkja is church in Iceland). It is the tallest building in the island and a huge church. It houses a 5,275 pipe organ. It was being played while were in the kirkja, but I couldn't get a good video.

We then walked back to the hotel and checked in to our room. We didnt have a/c I our room, but since some were on the top floor, the ceiling was angled and there were two small windows that opened to let fresh, cool air in. They also had blackout blinds (well kinda), since "sunset"was at 9:15pm and "sunrise" was at 5:15am.

We got up and walked to breakfast at the Grai Kotturinn (gray cat) which had about 7 tables and we had to wait outside before being seated. It was a great breakfast.

We walked back to the hotel for our transfer to the ship. Fortunately, the line was short and we got checked in and on the ship fairly quickly.

The second day was a sea day and we just explored the ship.

There are two types of travelers...

The ones with 27 browser tabs open trying to find the "perfect" hotel.

And the ones who let a travel advisor do the planning.
