On July 26, 2025, chaos broke out at a Walmart in Traverse City, Michigan when a man armed with a knife began randomly stabbing shoppers, injuring at least 11 people. Amid the panic, Derrick Perry, a former Marine, stepped in.
Using his legally owned gun, he confronted the attacker outside the store, ordered him to drop the weapon, and held him at gunpoint until police arrived. He never fired a shot, but his bravery likely saved lives. The suspect was arrested on the scene and later charged with multiple counts of attempted murder and terrorism. Perry’s heroic act has since been praised across the country.
