Winter in the Mediterranean has a calmer rhythm, and that’s exactly what makes it appealing.

Sailing aboard EXPLORA II, this itinerary gives you the chance to move through the region when everything feels more open, and easier to enjoy, without the intensity of peak season.

It becomes less about rushing through a list of places and more about enjoying the Journey itself, with time on board, time in destination, and the comfort of knowing everything is already taken care of.

If this sounds like the kind of winter escape you’d actually enjoy, let’s reserve your suite before 23 June so you can benefit from up to 30% savings and a reduced 10% deposit.

🌊 RIVER CRUISE 101: WHAT HAPPENS WHEN RIVER LEVELS CHANGE?
If you’re considering a European river cruise, you may have seen recent stories about unusually low water levels on some of Europe’s rivers.

So what does that actually mean for a river cruise?
It’s a great question — because river levels can affect an itinerary, but they don’t automatically mean your cruise is cancelled.

💧 WHEN WATER LEVELS ARE TOO LOW
Low water can become an issue when there isn't enough depth for a ship to safely navigate certain sections of the river.
Importantly, this doesn't necessarily affect an entire river. Conditions can vary considerably from one section to another, which is why simply hearing that “the Rhine is low” doesn't tell the whole story.
Depending on the conditions, a cruise line may:
• Adjust the itinerary
• Use an alternative docking location
• Modify an excursion
• Arrange transportation around an affected section
• In some circumstances, transfer guests between ships

🌧️ HIGH WATER CAN ALSO BE A PROBLEM
It may seem counterintuitive, but too much water can create challenges too.
When river levels rise significantly, bridges can become difficult or unsafe for ships to pass beneath, and navigation restrictions may be put in place.

🚢 SO, SHOULD YOU WORRY ABOUT RIVER LEVELS?
Not necessarily. River cruise lines closely monitor water levels and weather conditions and have contingency plans for changing conditions.

And this is one of the things I think is important for anyone considering a river cruise to understand: A river cruise itinerary isn't quite as fixed as a land itinerary.

You're travelling on a living, constantly changing river. Most of the time, that flexibility has little or no impact on your experience — but occasionally, Mother Nature gets a vote. 🌿
The good news is that cruise lines have considerable experience managing these situations and work to preserve as much of the planned experience as possible.

River Cruise Advisor recently published a helpful look at the current low-water situation on the Rhine and Danube, including what travelers should know and how river cruise lines are responding.

Amsterdam has me thinking about one of the things I love most about small-ship cruising…

It's not just about where you go. It's about how you experience the destination.

Smaller ships, fewer crowds, interesting ports — and, with lines like Azamara, the chance to stay later or even overnight.

Because sometimes the magic happens after the day-trippers have gone home.

I'm particularly drawn to an upcoming Northern Europe & Baltic sailing that includes Amsterdam, Berlin, Gdańsk, Riga, Tallinn and Helsinki — and finishes with an overnight in Stockholm.

That's the kind of itinerary that makes me want to unpack my bags and stay awhile. 🌊

If destination immersion is your kind of travel, this is definitely one to put on your radar.

Another certification earned! 🎓🚢

I’m excited to share that I’ve officially graduated as an Azamara Cruises Expert.

For me, supplier training isn’t just about collecting certificates. It’s about staying current on the cruise lines I recommend — understanding what makes each one different, who they’re best suited for, what’s new, and how the onboard experience really compares.

The cruise industry is constantly evolving, and I believe my clients deserve an advisor who continues to learn right alongside it.

From ship inspections and industry events to supplier training and firsthand travel experiences, I’m always investing in my knowledge so I can make better recommendations and help match you with the right cruise — not simply the one that happens to be available.

And yes… I’ll happily add another certificate to the wall. 😉🌊
