Thanksgiving, but someone else cooks.

Cherry blossom season in Japan is one of the most requested trips and it is also one of the most misunderstood.

The forecast is not something you can plan around. The blooms only last about a week in any one place and the cancellation policies change during this window without most people realizing it.

Booking hotels may feel like the biggest part of planning an international trip, but it is really only the framework.

The details connecting those reservations can determine whether your trip feels seamless or stressful.

Transportation between cities, advance tickets, private guides, airport transfers, luggage logistics and realistic timing all need to work together. If they do not, you may lose valuable vacation time trying to figure things out along the way.

My role is not simply to make reservations. It is to think through how the entire trip will flow, anticipate the details that are easy to overlook and make sure your plans make sense for the way you actually want to travel.

This past weekend I was hosted at Casa Mani Hotel and Spa in Napa, right alongside a group of fellow Fora advisors, so we could walk the property in person after its full renovation, rather than judge it from a brochure or a listing site. I got to sit in the room, test the water pressure in the shower, settle into the bed, and unwind by the fire pit with my morning espresso, which is exactly the kind of firsthand experience that shapes what I recommend to clients.

This is the work that happens behind the scenes, building real relationships with hotels and seeing the rooms before I ever suggest them to a client, so I know which properties actually deliver on what they promise and which ones just look good in photos.

So when I tell you where to stay, it is because I have either been there myself or I trust the advisor who has.

My clients recently returned from a 10-day trip to Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto, and this review is the kind that makes the whole job worth it.

What stands out to me isn’t the five stars. It’s the part about being in crisis and having someone show up for you right then, not after the fact. That’s the whole point of working with an advisor instead of booking everything yourself. Things go sideways on trips sometimes, even really well planned ones, and when they do you want a real person checking in and picking up the phone, not a call center or a chatbot.

To Ivania and Rey, thank you for trusting me with a trip that mattered this much to you. Getting to be part of your memories, especially when things went sideways, means more than you know.

Real Example: Why booking though a travel advisor adds overall value to your trip

We snuck away to The Ritz-Carlton San Francisco for a quick anniversary overnight and the whole stay made the case for why booking through an advisor actually matters.

We were upgraded, treated like VIPs from check in to check out, and the little touches kept coming all night. Here’s the part people don’t expect: the rate I got through my Fora partnership was lower than what’s published on the hotel’s own website, on top of the perks that come with being a preferred client.

If you’ve been thinking about a holiday getaway, consider this your reminder. The best hotels, flights, and experiences won’t wait until fall to book up, and that goes for Thanksgiving and New Years too, not just the December stretch in between.

Planning now means more options, better availability, and a trip that’s actually tailored to you instead of whatever’s left over once everyone else has already locked in their dates.

The families and couples who start planning their holiday trips in the summer end up with the properties they actually wanted, the flight times that don’t wreck their whole day, and a little breathing room to make thoughtful choices instead of scrambling. The ones who wait until October are choosing from what’s left.
