GlobeMed at the University of Denver

GlobeMed at the University of Denver GlobeMed has developed a comprehensive set of programs to educate, enable, and inspire students acro We are not your ordinary student group or club.

In fact we do not even call ourselves a group. We are a student led non-profit organization, currently apart of a network of 46 universities across the nation. We develop long-term sustainable relationships with grassroots organizations. These organizations work side-by-side in impoverished areas to improve the living conditions. Buddhism for Social Development Action is our partner, our family. W

e are growing. Join the movement. Be the change. Relationships are the heart of GlobeMed's model of engaging students to make an impact in the health of communities around the world. Each of our 46 Chapters at universities across the United States has a Partner in a grassroots health organization in the developing world. Together, the chapter and partner organization work to collaborate on specific projects, organize a global health curriculum on campus, and lead trips to work with partners in communities abroad. GlobeMed's National Office trains student-leaders, organizes network-wide programs and events, and provides financial and legal services for Chapters. The National Office is composed primarily of recent graduates and students.

"Social Justice is... "

Today is World Day of Social Justice!

Take some time to reflect on what social justice means to you and your community.

Stop by our GlobeMed meeting tomorrow night in Driscoll 145 for a discussion of social justice. We will be discussing what it means to our chapter and the DU community, followed by a a video of what leadership in social justice means from the founders of Black Lives Matter.

Hello to our GlobeMed community!
We have an important post that we hope you take a moment to read through.

Our chapter here at the University of Denver works with BSDA (Buddhism for Social Development and Action). Each year, a team of students travel to Cambodia to focus on our projects that have been developed in partnership with BSDA. These teams continue to work throughout the year with support for the projects, and all money raised for DU GlobeMed goes towards supporting these projects at BSDA.

While our team was on-site in June and July, they were able to form close friendships with every BSDA staff member. Particularly, our translator Sophors. Our community is coming together to show support and solidarity for Sophors as he goes through an extremely difficult time. Recently, his wife was hospitalized unexpectedly and diagnosed with coronary heart failure. She needs a very expensive surgery that, unfortunately, Sophors and his family simply can't afford.

All expenses for the surgery and extra medical costs are listed out on the fundraising page.

We are asking our community to come together and help Sophors through this difficult time and have set up a GoFundMe in his name. Because GlobeMed at DU cannot officially accept donations on behalf of Sophors, the fundraising platform was set up by Ally Malecha, one of this year's Co-Presidents for our chapter. The donations will be sent directly to Sophors.

Thank you for taking time to read this and we hoping for the best for Sophor's wife.

Mr. Nhe Sophors is a Community Support Officer working with the Chicken Raising and Financing Futures Projects at Buddhism for Social Development Action, or BSDA in Kampong Cham, Cambodia.
