Being a small business owner has changed the way I shop.

As a travel advisor, I know how much it means when someone chooses to support my business. Every booking, referral, recommendation and kind word helps me keep doing something I love, and I’m genuinely thankful for the people who choose to work with me.

Because of that, I love finding opportunities to support other small businesses, too. When I’m shopping for my next theme park trip, I’m always happy to discover a small shop offering something a little different from what I’ll find everywhere else.

From unique park apparel to accessories I wear on every trip, some of my favorite Disney finds have come from small businesses. 1953 Designs is one of those brands, and my Knotbands have become a regular part of my theme park wardrobe.

I love getting to share the small shops I enjoy with other Disney fans, so I’ve included a few of my favorites in this post!

I’m so grateful for everyone who supports my small business, and I love getting to pay some of that support forward.

Running my own travel-advisor business has given me a whole new appreciation for everyone who chooses to support a small business. Every booking, referral, recommendation and kind word means more than people probably realize!

Whether it’s a purchase, sharing someone’s work or recommending a business I love, I know firsthand how much those little things can mean.

And when I’m shopping for my next souvenir or vacation outfit, I’m always happy to see what small businesses have to offer.

While I am also the first to admit that I love Disney merch, there’s something extra fun about finding a shirt, accessory or bag that feels a little more unique to me.

Because as much as I love the Lion King, I don’t necessarily need to wear the same shirt as every dad walking around Animal Kingdom. 😂

Spilling the tea on the Garden View Lounge 🫖

The Garden View Lounge Tea Experience at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa combines traditional afternoon tea with Alice in Wonderland details, beautiful presentation, and a few thoughtful touches that make even the youngest guests feel included.

We loved the atmosphere and the little details (my daughter getting her apple juice in her own teapot was a highlight!), but was the food worth the splurge? That’s a little more complicated.

Spooky season has arrived 👻

I love fall, but there’s something especially fun about seeing Disney transform for Halloween. The decorations, seasonal treats, Halloween entertainment, spooky ride overlays and all the little details throughout the parks make this one of my favorite times to visit.

At Walt Disney World and Disneyland, I’ve loved getting to experience both coasts dressed up for the season. There’s just something about walking down Main Street surrounded by pumpkins and fall decorations that never gets old.

Is Crystal Palace Worth a Visit?

If you’re planning a Magic Kingdom day, you’ve probably wondered whether this Winnie the Pooh character meal is worth the time and money.

My honest take? It really depends on what you’re looking for. The food wouldn’t make Crystal Palace my first choice, but the character experience is a big part of the appeal - especially for little ones who love Pooh and his friends.

Bibbidi Bobbidi BOO!

Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is one of those Disney nights that just feels extra special!

My daughter loves watching the Halloween parade and meeting characters you don’t always see on a regular park day. This trip, she was especially excited to see Jack and Sally, which made the night even more memorable.

Between the candy stops, Halloween treats, festive entertainment and all the party fun, there’s something for everyone. It’s such a fun way to celebrate Halloween together.

Pro tip for little princesses: Make the night even more magical with a Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique reservation before the party. It’s the perfect way to start a special Halloween night by getting into character in style!

Beach Club Resort is a family favorite due to the Florida vibes, incredible Stormalong Bay pool complex, and proximity to Epcot (and Hollywood Studios)! If you plan on having a rest day or two and love Epcot as much as me, this resort is a no brainer!

Theme Park Bag Packing Guide

After enough theme park days, I’ve gotten pretty good at figuring out what I’ll actually use vs what can be left behind. Over time, I’ve also found that it helps to think about my park bag in a few categories...

𝐀𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬:
Picking the right bag is the best place to start. You want something big enough to hold what you need without becoming a burden to carry around all day. Belt bags, mini Loungeflys and crossbody bags are all popular options, and what works best really depends on what you like to carry.

I also always have a few accessories and a Knotband with me that are cute but comfy - especially on those hot and humid days!

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐜𝐬:
These are the things I want to have with me throughout the day: snacks, sunglasses, my wallet, a pen, my park ticket or card, and a small fan or alternate cooling device in warmer weather.

𝐏𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐒𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐞:
A phone battery can disappear quickly when you’re using the park app, taking photos, checking wait times and mobile ordering all day. I usually carry a power bank, or a FuelRod if I’m somewhere with swapping stations.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐄𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐬:
I keep these in a smaller pouch inside my bag so I can find them quickly when I need them. My bag essentials includes hand sanitizer, lip balm, sunscreen, stain remover, Band-Aids and a few other little things that seem to come in handy when you least expect them.

Keeping these together also means I can easily move the pouch from one bag to another without having to repack everything if I switch bags from day to day.

Over all, I try to keep my park bag practical. I also always have a reusable water bottle too that I hook onto my bag if it doesn’t fit inside.

I like to eat, eat, eat…
especially when Disneyland has fall food!

We tried our way through some of the seasonal offerings at Disneyland, and honestly, the quick-service food deserves more credit. There are SO many options, flavors, and cuisines to choose from that everyone in your group can usually find something they’re excited about - no matter how different your food preferences are.

We had a plan for Disneyland… but Little Miss had a few ideas of her own!

This trip we let our toddler be our guide and had days full of character meet-and-greets, watching shows, and riding the same favorite attractions over and over as we gave our daughter the chance to help decide what we did next.

Instead of following a strict itinerary, we had a general plan each day but let her lead the way. Each afternoon, we headed back to the hotel for a nap and some pool time before returning to the parks for evening entertainment.

Did we see and do everything? Definitely not!
There was plenty more we could have experienced, but we got to spend our time watching the joy and magic through her eyes.

She got to experience the things she was most excited about as we spent a little extra time doing the things she loved.

While we may not have checked everything off the list, those moments that brought the smiles and giggles made this trip so special!
