Skeetie B's Production My name is Skeeter Buck. Daughter. Wife. Mother. Author. Blogger. Welcome! My name is Skeeter Buck, my real name is Anna, but that’s another story.

I live in Colorado with my lovely wife Alexandra, our son Daniel and our two dogs Lucy and Gracie. I believe it is important to do something each year that scares me half to death – and that’s what brought me here. My wife and I have just re-entered and are launching our new careers after 14 months of intentional living in Sonoma County. Yes, I confess being in the heart of California’s wine count

y during this journey was amazing, but it didn’t make ‘being’ instead of ‘doing’ less daunting. Well, that was until it was wine thirty and time to light the fireplace. What I experienced in my personal journey is that family and community are two of the most important things in my life. And with that, a healthy and conscious family and community can change the world. I’ve spent most of my adult life working in the non-profit world. My most humbling and meaningful work has been teaching prevention education and providing emergency services for men and women living with HIV/AIDS and breast cancer. So here I am, sharing my thoughts and experiences so that hopefully others can enjoy some of the little things that make my heart beat and brings clarity, joy and compassion to my family and me.

As we near the return to school for many of our kids this is a thoughtful reminder on how to approach anxiety with your kids.

Anxiety comes from a part of the brain called the amygdala. The amygdala is like that friend who loves you loads, but takes everything personally and always assumes the worst. The amygdala’s job is to constantly scan the environment looking for threat. When it senses something that might be a thre...

I love the language she uses in this article on emotional intelligence.

The latency period gives me much more insight as my son approaches his tenth birthday.

My son has never been a maverick. Let me be clear. He is cautious and ponders his choices deeply; this allows him a kind of wisdom that is hard to come by at the ripe old age of ten. I have noticed in the past an instinct to circumvent, to avoid, to sidestep risk. But... Read more »

...we can all (publishers, authors, illustrators, editors) find a way to have our voices be heard in this disgraceful policy (or lack thereof) on immigration.

A number of children's book illustrators have joined forces with author Julie Burstein and Pippin Properties creative director Holly McGhee, to make available images for posters that can be carried by protesters of the U.S. government’s recently rescinded policy of separating the children of undoc...

...anxiety is real and alive for all us of.

Imagine this. You’re travelling along the freeway when your brakes feel as though they might fail. They’re working, but something feels off. This has never happened before. You drive the car to the closest mechanic. After a thorough inspection of the car, you’re told everything is fine and the...

...the power of mindfulness and being present with our children is powerful.

It took me a long time to realize why the present moment was a helpful place to hang out. I can even recall as an anxious kid how my mind worked “I’m going to fail this test, then fail out of school, never get into college, probably die homeless and alone under a bridge, and... Read more »
