Next Tuesday is the beginning of the new smartmovesus Mound/Hamtramck bus route! This route hearkens back to the old DSR days of route #43 / Detroit Department of Transportation #24 called Holbrook. At one time the route stretched between Woodward/Holbrook up to Mound & Chicago Rd. It was a crucial wartime route, supplying workers to the many factories along the route. The route stopped crossing 8 Mile in 1998 & was discontinued in 2009. This new service is set to run between Bel Air on 8 Mile to downtown Detroit through Hamtramck 7-days a week. https://www.smartbus.org/About/News/september-2026-service-changes

SMART will be hosting a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday, September 8th at Pope Park to celebrate the opening of SMART Route 500 Mound-Hamtramck!

This event will bring together elected officials, county executives and community partners from both Wayne and Macomb counties, along with members of the media, to recognize the importance of expanded regional transit connectivity and the communities served by Route 500.

Annual reminder that on August 15, during the The Official Page of the Woodward Dream Cruise, you can (unofficially) park for free at Oakland Mall and take the SMART bus (760 13/14-Mile or 780 15-Mile) bus from the stop outside the NE Entrance (by JC Penny). 760 will take you to the heart of the cruise (13&Woodward) and 780 will take you to B'ham. If you want to check out Ferndale, take 492-Rochester south to 9&Hilton (Mustang Mile). It runs hourly from 6am-11pm on Saturday. You can also ride the free SMART shuttle up Woodward from 8 Mile to Pontiac. Use the TransitApp to pay by phone or use $2 cash for a 4-hour pass. 🚍 Suddenly Everybody's Getting SMART. ❤️

Thank you, Wayne County!

Because of your vote on August 4, the SMART Transit millage proposal has been approved, marking the first time for a fully opted-in Wayne County. With Wayne County now fully connected alongside Oakland and Macomb counties, SMART is strengthening a unified regional transit network that connects communities across Southeast Michigan.

This investment means continued and expanded transit opportunities that connect people to work, school, healthcare, shopping, and the places that matter most. Together, we're building a transit system that serves our communities today and for generations to come.

The future is moving forward... and everybody's getting SMART.

Parking is expensive downtown Detroit on opening day! Take transit instead!!

In preparation for Opening Day, several downtown parking garages near Comerica Park have announced flexible financing options for fans hoping to park within a half mile of the stadium.

Jenn Italia, 38, said she was pre approved for a standard space but needed a co signer for anything considered “close enough to hear the national anthem.”

The new plans include 12 month payments, zero percent interest if paid off by July, and a balloon payment due before the seventh inning stretch.

“I love the Tigers,” Italia said, reviewing her amortization schedule in a navy jersey. “But I didn’t expect to refinance my future to park for three hours.”

I visited one of the mobile warming centers near Macomb Mall in Roseville, where the SMART bus remained stationary to serve as a refuge for anyone needing to escape the freezing temperatures.
