We didn't know Ryan Gosling was a car guy. Did you?

For his movie “Drive,” which some say is a remake of the classic film “The Driver” with Ryan O’Neal, Gosling picked out the car for his character and got his hands dirty working on it after the crew found the 1973 Malibu in a junkyard and hauled it out to be fixed up for the movie.

Even cooler, Gosling didn’t know much about working on cars, so he hired a mechanic named Pedro to work on the Malibu and teach him along the way. Gosling ended up doing much of the work himself, helping him prepare for the role.

When was the last time you came across something rare and cool in a junkyard?

A friend was scouring his local yard for parts in New Hampshire when he came across this sad-looking gem: an original 1973 SS 454 El Camino! It was the last year for the SS option, although the big-block lived on in the El Camino a little longer, thanks to its designation as a truck. As you can see, this one is in sad shape, with the engine and transmission long gone.

Hmmm ... what about a future Pavement Pounder Events road trip focused on famous car-movie filming locations?

Spotted on social media recently, these photos are from Wilmington, North Carolina, where the classic sci-fi movie “Maximum Overdrive,” based on a Stephen King story, was filmed. If you’re not familiar with it, the story centers on machines becoming sentient—and, of course, homicidal—trapping a group of people inside a truck stop.

Have you ever tried to track down a car you sold long ago because you wanted to own it again for sentimental reasons?

We spotted these photos in a Facebook group. A man is searching for the Frost Green 1969 Camaro with a black vinyl top and black interior that his mom bought new. She later sold it to buy a more family-friendly vehicle—a Mercury Grand Marquis, he mentions. He still has the Camaro’s VIN and some original paperwork to aid his search and determine whether the car still exists.

Spotted during a recent visit to the : 1965 Ford Mustang VIN No. 0004!

This car was one of 12 Mustangs used to give people rides at the Ford Pavilion during the 1964 New York World’s Fair. The cars didn’t move under their own power; they were pulled using a system designed by Disney engineers. The information plaque says an estimated 40,000 people rode in this car during the World’s Fair.

Cool restoration taking us back to the 1980s!

There’s a Facebook group called “Knight Rider Historians,” and its members have been posting updates about their project to find and restore the semi-truck rig used as KITT’s mobile support base in the series. The group found both the original rig and trailer used on the TV show, then restored them to look as they did in the series.
