I’m off to Montreal in a couple weeks! I have done very little research other than what restaurants are close to the hotel I’m staying in. What’s there to do in Montreal? What’s not to miss?

Four major trips this year! My first time flying internationally since 2019 on my trip next month to Montreal. First time going to Yellowstone in July. First MerMaiden Virgin Voyage. First Disney cruise.

Well. Today had a big disappointment in Puerto Plata.

I had booked an excursion that seemed incredibly size-inclusive — an ATV ride to a beach with a weight limit of 600 pounds. Wow, right?

Well, when my husband and I got to the excursion meeting port we were told the weight limit is 200 pounds. So we didn’t get to go.

Instead we had cold drinks and fried plantains in the port, bought a magnet, watched some parrots, and took a tuktuk back to the ship where we ordered room service and napped and reveled in the air conditioning.

Luckily the Shore Things team made things right and refunded us the cost of the excursion. Hopefully this feedback will also lead to fixing the listing so no one else gets excited to ride an ATV and gets turned away.

Yesterday my husband and I flew into Fort Lauderdale on schedule and with very few issues (until the landing, which was safe but tough).

We caught the from FLL to Miami. Really recommend the premium car! Big comfy seats, snacks, and drinks on the train, plus a special lounge with more drinks and snacks before you board!

We caught the shuttle from the airport to the train station — easy peasy, we just waited at the designated area and watched pigeons til the shuttle came. 🪶😂 The shuttle is $10, plus $5 for each person after the first in the party. So, party of 2 = $15.

One of the best things about vacation is having a day where you do nothing but eat, nap, and read! I opted to stay on the ship in Grand Turk, which left a very quiet place for me to do all three yesterday.

Lunch on board Carnival Sunrise! I didn’t know Cucina del Capitano was open for lunch — it’s their pasta bar, where you order pasta to your liking. It was a bit of quiet during a hectic boarding day.

Oh and cake.

Now is the perfect time to start planning for seeing the total eclipse in 2026. In fact, Virgin Voyages opens its bookings for Eclipse in the Land of Fire and Ice, a trip around the UK, Ireland, and Iceland, on Wednesday, along with one in the Mediterranean. Princess Cruises and Holland America Line have some pretty epic sailings too!
