Thorroblót, the "end-of-winter feast," is on February 25, 2012. At that time, you can join others who declare, "Hey! We survived the winter! We're still alive! And we have food left over! Let's celebrate!"
Thorrablót 2012 will be at the Veterans Memorial Building in Spanish Fork, Utah, on the southeast corner of Main Street and 400 North. Doors open at 5:00 P.M. Come early to browse the gift shop, view the Mobile Mini-Museum, view other displays, browse in the Gift Shop, and meet friends. The buffet dinner starts at 6:00 P.M. The Copper Kettle will cater a pleasant variety of typical food items that Icelanders enjoy.
In addition, guests can sample traditional Viking food, called þorramatur. This fare typically includes harðfiskur (dried fish) with butter, hákarl (cured shark), hangikjöt (smoked lamb, super tasty), flatbrauð (flat bread, a treat when eaten with hangikjöt), and hrutspungur (pickled lamb parts).
The cost of a þorramatur Sample Platter is $5 (*pre-order). Or you can try individual þorramatur delicacies for just $1 each, with tickets purchased at the door (supplies limited).
Tickets for the buffet dinner cost $15.00 per adult if you *pre-order, or $20.00 at the door. Dinner tickets for children 12 and under cost $5.
During dinner, guests will enjoy a musical number by the barnakór (Children's Choir). In addition, you will hear Michelle Curtin, who went to Iceland last summer as part of the Snorri Program, share a bit of Iceland. Following dinner, Dr. Fred Woods will report on the Museum project that is underway in Vestmannaeyjar (the Westman Islands).
Come to enjoy a bit of Iceland. We plan for you and your friends to leave Thorrablót 2012 a bit more Icelandic than when you arrived.
